Believe- A True Christmas Short story (part one)

Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year. When I was little, we used to go as a family to pick out our Christmas tree. My mom, dad, brother, sister and I would get in the car, around the fifteenth of December and drive to Ventura to the Green Thumb. You could smell the pine as soon as you stepped out of the car. This Chick Read: Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers book 1) by Penny Reid

First- I love this title!  Truth or Beard is an obvious play on words, and the characters do, at one point play truth or dare.  More interestingly, Duane, the male protagonist, has a bushy beard. I can only think of one other romance book I’ve read where the man has a beard, and I loved that book too! Hmmm, something to think about anyway…  Back to the book. This Chick Read: In the Barren Ground by Loreth Anne White

I picked up this book because I received an email from Amazon declaring it their pick for best romance of the year. This book was surprising in many ways.  The first being that I wouldn’t necessarily call this book a romance.  There was a romance, but it was only a sub plot to the intricately wrought, brutal, murder mystery that I found myself enmeshed in.  Yes, this book was fantastic, I agree!  But it was a murder mystery in the same vein as Fargo. In fact as I was reading it, I thought it was funny that the main character, rookie cop Tana Larsson, called the little city she found herself living in very Twin Peaks-ish. This Chick Read: Star Nomad (Fallen Empire book 1) by Lindsay Buroker

Lindsay Buroker has a new science fiction series, Fallen Empire, that has been released on Amazon, and is free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I haven’t read a true science fiction novel in a little while, but when I read this synopsis I thought it had all of the traits of some of my favorite genres. A strong female lead character, a conflict between two alien races, a lot of action adventure, and the promise of either a great male-female friendship or love affair.  I was not disappointed! This Chick Read: The Trouble With Mistletoe (A Heartbreaker Bay Novel) by Jill Shalvis

I am loving this Heartbreaker Bay series! It’s set in San Francisco where we get to enjoy  learning more about a fun group of friends who work and live in the same neighborhood.  This time the story revolves around Willa, the owner of a pet store / pet boutique / pet wedding planner. Yep, it’s a pet a la mode store. Willa, who we met in Sweet Little Lies, has had a crush on Keane since high school.  Unfortunately, he doesn’t remember her at all, which seriously pisses her off.
