This Chick Read: Darken the Stars (The Kricket Series book 3) by Amy A. Bartol

Darken the Stars is the third and final book in this series, and I, like all of the other fans of this series are left saying “What?”  I loved how Kricket, who had been terrified of Kyon in the previous books, see’s his faults, but comes to care for him anyway.  Ok, if you’ve read my previous reviews for Under Different Stars and Sea of Stars, you know that Kyon has been cast as the evil character.  But, as with all great storytellers, this author gave us some insight into why he was so crazy, and also why Kricket was so important to him. This Chick Read: The Undoing (Call of Crows) by Shelly Laurenston

Shelly Laurenston is a paranormal romance author, whose past books feature men and women who turn into lions and tigers and bears, oh my!  As a fan of paranormal romances, one of my biggest pet peeves is a shifter romance that makes the story only about the romance.  Because it’s not weird enough that we are reading books about wolves and panthers having relationships (insert “sex” here), right?  Ms. Laurenston writes exactly those kind of books!  BUT, the difference is that the story actually has a plot, other than the main characters relationship, although, don’t get me wrong, it’s a big part of it.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: The Undoing (Call of Crows) by Shelly Laurenston” →

This Chick Read: Best of My Love by Susan Mallery

Last week, on my flight to the RT Booklover’s Convention in Las Vegas I read Susan Mallery’s brand new novel Best of My Love.  It seemed to be kismet that I had picked this book to read because her name was featured predominantly on our badges,  her books were handed out as gifts while we waited in line, and she and Robyn Carr hosted a session for their fans, thanking them for their support.  I was excited, this being my first Susan Mallery book that I’ve ever read, that I was able to honestly say that I was a fan.  This book was fantastic! This Chick Read: Sea of Stars (The Kricket Series book 2) by Amy A. Bartol

The majority of Sea of Stars finds Kricket running with Trey Allairis, away from everyone who wants to control her, and through her, her powers of being able to see and change the future.  With the exception of Trey’s two Cavar brothers, Jax and Wayra, she does not trust anyone else on Ethar.  From what we have seen of the other men on Ethar, and how the men from this planet treat women, I don’t blame her. This Chick Read: Under Different Stars (The Kricket series Book 1) by Amy A. Bartol

What a great find!  I saw a tweet about this book with a quote that read “So she’s a skeezer?  What’s a skeezer?  A boyfriend stealer.  Lol.”  That one line made me curious enough to look this book up on Amazon, and the synopsis made it sound good enough to read.  As I started reading, the writing was so good, the main character, Kricket, was flawed and funny, that before I knew it, I had read the entire first book in the series and immediately bought the second. This Chick Read: The Rejected Writers’ Book Club by Suzanne Kelman

The Rejected Writers’ Book Club was surprisingly charming and fantastically funny.  The cast of characters all seemed slightly crazy, even more so set against the perfect straight man (or woman) Janet Johnson, the librarian.  Somehow, Janet finds herself drawn into a caper by a group of older ladies, calling themselves The Rejected Writers’ Book Club.  Doris, the leader and Alpha of the club, had “gasp”, had her book accepted by a publishing house in San Francisco. This Chick Read: Homecoming by Tanya Bullock

The tag line for this novella was “Quite possibly the strangest romance ever told” and I will admit, I wanted to know what made it the strangest romance! Luckily Blackbird Digital Publishing sent me an ARC, so I could read this short story and give my honest review.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: Homecoming by Tanya Bullock” →

This Chick Read: Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

This YA book took me completely by surprise.  I try not to read other reviews if I think I’m going to review a book myself, but I had read the synopsis.  It sounded intriguing, but didn’t sound special, yep, insert foot here.  I’ll get back to this statement, I promise, BUT, Rebel of the Sands did have some similarities to other YA novels. This Chick Read: No One Knows by J. T. Ellison

Aubrey and Josh Hamilton seemed to have the perfect life.  He was a med student at Vanderbilt and she was a grade school teacher.  Newly married and very much in love, they’d known each other since they were children and knew everything about each other.  One day, on their way to their friends bachelor party, Josh disappears, and Aubrey discovers she may not have know as much as she thought she did about her husband.  The police look at Aubrey as the prime subject and her life goes into a tailspin. This Chick Read: The Brimstone Deception by Lisa Shearin

Lisa Shearin’s SPI Files series takes place in New York City, but it’s a New York that regular people don’t see.  Unless you have taken Brimstone, a new designer drug that allows the user to “see” the true form of those around them.  Something that SPI, does not want to happen.  Humans would freak out  if they knew what they were living among.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: The Brimstone Deception by Lisa Shearin” →
