This Chick Read: Homecoming by Tanya Bullock

The tag line for this novella was “Quite possibly the strangest romance ever told” and I will admit, I wanted to know what made it the strangest romance! Luckily Blackbird Digital Publishing sent me an ARC, so I could read this short story and give my honest review.  I think the tag line was misleading.  I didn’t think this was the strangest romance, more appropriate adjectives would be sweet, sad, and mysterious.  At the end of the 68 pages, I had more questions than I did answers.

The following synopsis was taken directly from Blackbird Digital Publishing‘s website.

Quite possibly the strangest romance ever told

All that mattered to Rosie, all that had ever really mattered, was that she loved Tom and he loved her.  Rosie and Tom belong together.  For too long, war and its devastating aftermath have kept them apart.  Now that Tom has finally returned home, Rosie hopes that they will be able to put the past behind them.  But when a mysterious sequence of events unfolds, their love is put to the test once more.  With a shocking secret hanging heavily over their relationship…

With circumstances conspiring against them at every turn…

Rosie and Tom find themselves caught up in the biggest battle of their lives.  Will their demons ultimately consume them?

Or will love conquer all in the end?

Tom and Rosie’s love story enveloped my senses.  I could feel their youthful eagerness and determination to be with each other, ignoring her parents disapproval.  Hear the band’s music as they danced all night in the club.  See the sun glinting off their heads as they walked in the garden.  Tanya Bullocks background in film is apparent.  She sets each scene with great emotional impact, weaving fact and fantasy effortlessly, keeping the reader questioning the characters reality.  I will not spoil the writers efforts, but will say that the tale was expertly told, the characters well developed, and the outcome quite unique.

You will reflect back on Tom and Rosie’s story and will want to re-read it, the journey being worth the cost to take it.  This book is available for purchase on April, 01 2016.
