This Chicks Take Control of my TBR Update! (week 3) #TakeControlTBR

I’ll admit, I got a little off track this week!  I actually had a social life!  Lol. A hockey game one night and then an exhibit and book signing on another, which was great fun, really! But, with the ARC commitments (two books) and those other activities, I only got one book read that will count towards my challenge. And that book was…. insert drumroll here….

1) Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

This book truly deserves all of the great things everyone has to say about it. Check my blog for a future review!

Take Control of my TBR Challenge Goal – 12 books

Week 1 started off with a bang! 6 books read

Week 2 had a couple ARC’s throw off my total… 4 books read.

Week 3 had great weather, fun extracurricular activities 1 1/2 ARC’s read… and 1 book finished for the challenge.

3 week total- 11 books.  I have until this Friday to meet my 12 book challenge, and I know I can easily get that done.  So, just to make things fun, do you all think I can get to a higher book total? Anyone want to race me to the end? Ready…Set…Read!

I’ll post one last Take Control of my TBR Update next week! I do want to give a quick Thanks! To Kimberly at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This has been fun!

This Chick Read: The Unyielding (Call of Crows #3) by Shelly Laurenston

The Unyielding is the third and, I think, final book in the Call of Crows series ending the story arc of Ragnarok, or the end of the world. Erin Amstel is the only one who can steal Stutr, the flaming sword located on the Isle of Corpses. A place where crows are definitely not welcome. Up to the challenge, Erin accepts her fate and dives through the mystical door, accidentally bringing her maybe boyfriend Stieglitz Lundstrom with her. This novel, told with a kind of slapstick, frenetic humor, tells of their journey through mythological lands to retrieve this sword from a corpse eating dragon with the hope of returning in time to save the world. It reminded me a bit of Beowulf, if Jeff Daniels and Owen Wilson in their Dumb and Dumber roles were sent out to heroically save the world. This Chick Read: The Cage by Megan Shepherd

The Cage has a rather disturbing premise. Six teenagers are kidnapped from earth and held on some sort of alien space station. They are put into a simulated Earth environment and given a few rules. Play their games to collect their tokens, eat to remain healthy, and by day 21 start having sex. If you have a vivid imagination like I do, this premise doesn’t seem too out there, right? This book reminded me of a high school psychology class excercise. If you were stuck on a lifeboat, or deserted island or something, who would you want with you, and how would you react? Each of these six teenagers have things they are good at, one is brilliantly smart, one is a mechanic, one is bilingual, another was a criminal dealing on the black market, and then Cora was a Senator’s daughter who had just gotten out of juvie. Will they use these skills to survive? Continue reading “This Chick Read: The Cage by Megan Shepherd”

This Chick Read: Accidentally on Purpose (Heartbreaker Bay #3) by Jill Shalvis

If a group of friends worked in the same neighborhood, became friends you could rely on, wished on a fountain for love, and then found it, you’d be reading the Heartbreaker Bay series from Jill Shalvis….or watching old episodes of Friends. Regardless, you’d be enjoying the hell out of yourself! Continue reading “This Chick Read: Accidentally on Purpose (Heartbreaker Bay #3) by Jill Shalvis”

This Chicks Take Control of my TBR Update! (Week 2) #TakeControlTBR

Kimberly at Caffeinated Book Reviewer created this challenge to motivate us to read some books on our TBR lists. Reduce those stacks of books, even if they are virtual stacks! This week I had to read one of my ARC commitments, which doesn’t count towards my challenge, so I didn’t get as much read as last week.  However, I still read four books. Look for my reviews in the future!

1) Baron: The Knickerbocker Club by Joanna Shupe

2) The Hunt (The Cage #2) by Megan Shepherd

3) An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

4) Devil in Spring (The Ravenals #3) by Lisa Kleypas

My goal for this challenge was to complete 12 books. I do have a couple more ARC’s that I need to fit in this week, but I should definitely hit my goal this week. This challenge goes through the 31st, so maybe I should’ve set myself a higher number? But then, what’s the fun in setting a goal you can’t hit!

  • Last week- 6
  • This week-4

Total count -10!

Until next week!

This Chick Read: Perfected by Kate Jarvik Birch

There are a couple of spoilers in this review. Read at your own risk…

Ella has been born and trained to be a pet. Yes, just like a dog, Ella is adopted by a family, micro chipped and brought home to live in her new home. She has been trained to be a perfect girl, she plays the piano, can make idle conversation, and can keep her own emotions at bay. She doesn’t know how to do the things normal girls can do, like read or swim. She is adopted into a Senator’s family. The Senator who helped pass the bill to make it ok to own humans again. This Chick Read: Break Out (Dark Desires #1) by Nina Croft

Synopsis: Two thousand year old vampire Ricardo Sanchez won’t take no for an answer. Irreverent, insatiable, and utterly irresistible, Rico lives for no one but himself…  there’s more romance verbiage, so I thought I was picking up a paranormal romance.  I mean, wouldn’t you? Boy, was I in for a surprise!  A good one though! This book, the first in a series about the suave devil/vampire you read about above, and his FLIGHT CREW.  Yes, you read that right. Break Out is about Rico, the space vampire!  I have to giggle a little at that sentence. Continue reading “This Chick Read: Break Out (Dark Desires #1) by Nina Croft “

This Chick Read: Recipe for Kisses by Michelle Major

Chloe Daniels past definitely affects the decisions she makes in her present. She owns a semi successful toy store, but hires women who need help getting a new start in their lives. Ben “The Beast” is a celebrity chef who has gotten famous for his loud voice and obnoxious behavior in the kitchen. He moves back home and decides that the location of his new restaurant would be perfect where Chloe’s toy store resides.  You can guess what happens next, but not the impact they have on each other’s lives. This Chicks Take Control of my TBR update! #TakeControlTBR

I had joined Kimberly from Caffeinated Book Reviewers challenge to clean up my TBR list.  The challenge started on 3/1, but I didn’t see the post until a few days into the month. Regardless of my late start, here is my tally for the week.

My goal? 12 books. Hmmm, maybe I should’ve set a higher goal….

1) Victoria Schwab –This Savage Song ❤❤❤❤

This Chick Read: Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Gemina takes place on space station Heimdall, which if you’ll remember from the first novel is where the Hypatia (the ship our heroes from Illuminae are on) is traveling. Hanna is the space station managers spoiled daughter. Bored, Hannah is scoring some drugs for a party with her friends when Bei Tech strikes the station. Hanna, her drug dealer friend Nick, and his paraplegic cousin Ella are the only ones not being held hostage. It is at this moment that daddy’s little girl turns into trained warrior with a ferociously sassy attitude, and She Kicks Ass!  Continue reading “This Chick Read: Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff”
