This Chick Read: Fan the Flames (Search and Rescue #2) by Katie Ruggle

I read and reviewed Katie Ruggle’s first book in the Search and Rescue series, Hold Your Breath, giving that book ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.  Fan the Flames only cemented my love for Katie Ruggle’s style of writing.  Again, don’t let the cover fool you.  Yes, Ian Walsh, nicknamed Beauty by his fellow firefighters, is gorgeous.  But, he is a character with many layers, and the author, through the eyes of Rory, gives us all of those layers to unwrap.  Continue reading “This Chick Read: Fan the Flames (Search and Rescue #2) by Katie Ruggle”

This Chick Read: Three Blonde Mice by Jane Heller

Three Blonde Mice is a tongue in cheek self proclaimed nickname for friends Elaine, Jackie and Pat.  They met each other as each of them were going through a divorce, and have become fast friends.  We were introduced to these characters in Jane Heller’s Princess Charming, when they went on their first group vacation, a cruise.  This novel follows them on their second vacation to Connecticut for Cultivate Your Bounty week, a farm to table festival Continue reading “This Chick Read: Three Blonde Mice by Jane Heller”

This Chick Read: Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen

Beauty and the Clockwork Beast is a paranormal steampunk novel.  We are introduced to Lucy Pickett as she travels by dirigible to visit her newly married cousin Kate.  Kate was swept off her feet by the younger brother of the Lord of the Manor, and has written to Lucy about her mysterious illness.  Lucy, a botanist, rushes to her side.  What she finds is more than a mysterious illness.  She encounters a ghost who seems to be trying to deliver a message to her and an irritable, yet handsome Lord who needs her help.  This steampunk version of England where humans exist alongside mechanical beings, vampires and werewolves was fascinating, and the mystery well written.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen”

This Chick Read: Hold Your Breath (Search and Rescue #1) by Katie Ruggle

Don’t let the cover fool you, this book is so much more than a hot guy with a gun. Actually, the hot guy doesn’t even hold a gun until the end of the novel, so that is somewhat misleading.  This series starts with the novella On His Watch, which I haven’t read yet, but after finishing this fast paced action thriller, I did add it to my kindle, as it’s free right now on Amazon, and I enjoyed this book too much to not check it out.  Callum is the Team Leader of a Dive and Rescue team, and we are introduced to his character in this book, leading a training session.  He seems gruff, inflexible and stern, but when female team member Lou cracks a joke, he can’t help but crack a smile. This Chick Read: Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight is the first novel in the Dark Artifices series, which follows Emma Carstairs and her parabatai Julian Blackthorn of the LA Institute.  We were introduced to the Blackthorns, and Emma in the City of Heavenly Fire.  As children, they watched their parents fall to Sebastian’s evil machinations, leaving Julian, at twelve years old, to raise his four younger siblings.  Even though Julian and Emma are only 17 in this book, it feels much more adult because they were forced to be parents to his brothers and sisters. This Chick Read: Sweet as Sin (Bad Habit book 1) by J.T. Geissinger

I read the premise to this novel and knew I had to read it and see if it was as good as it sounded.  Kat ( I love this name!) is a Hollywood makeup artist who has been hired to do the make-up for a music video for the band Bad Habit.  She meets the lead singer, Nico Nyx (yep, another cool name!) and their attraction to each other is immediate.  Unfortunately, according to all of the gossip rags, he has a girlfriend.  That girlfriend shows up at the video, where she is supposed to play the bride to Nico’s groom, and she is wasted on drugs.  Nico takes advantage of the opportunity and asks Kat to fill in… For $30k. This Chick Read: Til Death Do Us Part by Amanda Quick

Calista Langley, a single young Victorian woman, supports she and her brother by holding small parties where other single people can mix and mingle to find companionship, love and marriage.  Yes, basically she is a gentile matchmaker, of sorts.  Trent Hastings a writer of serial mysteries, meets with Calista under the guise of checking out her salon for his own prospects, but really he is making sure his younger sister is in good hands.  While interviewing with Calista, he stumbles on threats that are being made to her by way of some rather morbid gifts. She enlists his investigative skills and they pair up to solve the mystery. Continue reading “This Chick Read: Til Death Do Us Part by Amanda Quick”

This Chick Read: All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda

I will admit that I was somewhat tentative about reading a book backwards because I could not imagine how that would work.  We are introduced to the main character, Nicolette, in present time.  She goes back to her hometown because her brother has asked for her help getting their childhood home ready to sell, to help pay for their fathers living facility.  She has been back in Cooley Ridge for a couple of weeks when a local girl disappears, Continue reading “This Chick Read: All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda”

This Chick Read: Shadow Rider by Christine Feehan

Shadow Riders can use shadows to travel from one place to another by catching a ride through a shadow’s tubes.  The Ferrero family has made a business of shadow riding. They provide a service, caring for the people in their neighborhood, and being paid to “take care of” those who are harming others, the dregs of society.  Female riders are rare, and when Francesca walks into Stefano’s neighborhood he immediately knows what she is, and claims her for his own.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: Shadow Rider by Christine Feehan”
