I read the premise to this novel and knew I had to read it and see if it was as good as it sounded. Kat ( I love this name!) is a Hollywood makeup artist who has been hired to do the make-up for a music video for the band Bad Habit. She meets the lead singer, Nico Nyx (yep, another cool name!) and their attraction to each other is immediate. Unfortunately, according to all of the gossip rags, he has a girlfriend. That girlfriend shows up at the video, where she is supposed to play the bride to Nico’s groom, and she is wasted on drugs. Nico takes advantage of the opportunity and asks Kat to fill in… For $30k. I would do many things for $30k and it seems that Kat feels the same way. She takes the job, but gives him a few rules to follow. No touching and no nudity! She’s annoyed because he can’t keep his eyes off of her, which she finds ridiculous. He has a girlfriend…or so she thought.
As I’ve said before, and I don’t believe I’m alone, I love a good Rocker love story. As long as it’s well done. On the surface this story seemed a lighthearted fling, but I should’ve known better. J.T. Geissinger, who also writes the Dark Prowler series, likes her stories a little on the dark side. This book follows that theme but the story has a lot more depth than that synopsis led me to believe. Nico and Kat have many challenges in front of them. They both have dark pasts and tons of baggage, but despite that I liked Kat and Nico a lot. She was pretty but strong willed, and stood up for herself. He was gorgeous and tormented. Kat didn’t let Nico, who was very possessive and had some anger issues, control her life. I have never understood the attraction of a guy with anger issues, and that was the one negative for me in this story. Even if he were Jon Bon Jovi, if we were fighting all the time I’d walk. However, I did not walk away from this book! The story was mysterious, sexy, and had a touch of a thriller feel to it. How did I miss this book coming out?! Lucky for me there is a second book in this series that I can grab and read right away, Make Me Sin, which is about band member A. J. and Kat’s best friend Chloe who seem to hate each other. Hmmmm, but do they?
These books are part of Kindle Unlimited, and I recommend this book if you are looking for a departure from the normal summer beach read.
