It’s Monday, what are you reading? (6/26/23)

Sorry for my absence, but I’ve taken a few weeks off from some of my weekly posts. I have not, however, stopped reading! I can’t imagine what it would take for me to not crack a book open, seriously. With a couple of weeks on vacation, here’s what is now on my nightstand.

JUST FINISHED

I had recently read Kate Clayborn’s ‘Georgie All Along’ and realized there were quite a few novels she’d written that I hadn’t read. I wanted to get caught up and this was the first in the lot that I’ve managed to read. Loved it! Cute premise and very realistic response to winning the lottery. I liked these characters a lot and found myself not wanting to put this book down.

JUST STARTED

I started this series when I was on vacation and have gotten hooked! The audiobook is narrated by Christie Moreau and does a great job with all of the accents and male/female voices. This series is totally fun and absolutely unbelievable, but who needs a believable plot in order to be entertained?

I’d love to hear what you all are reading right now. Share in the comments!

Happy Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (5/22/23)

I’ve been on a bit of a fantasy kick over the last week so I was both reading and listening to fantasy novels. It’s funny how reading moods change on a whim. Or at least mine do. Here’s what I was up to this last week.

JUST FINISHED

I’ve read this book before but because the book is coming out in a month or so I decided to listen to the audiobook. I liked the narrators but I think I preferred the pace of reading this novel instead of listening to it. You know that does happen sometimes! LOL

JUST STARTED

Did I say I was going to start this book last week? I know it’s on my list to read and I want to get started on it. I just need to not get distracted by a different title in the meantime.

Happy Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (5/1/23)

Have you ever read a book by an author you love but that reading it is emotional torture? One of the books below was that book for me. Oh my goodness, I chose the audiobook, which can be torture in itself because you are held to the speed the narrator reads it. There is no skipping ahead without missing some of the content which I couldn’t do because I was so invested! I’ll tell you more below.

JUST FINISHED

TORTURE! OK, it was tortuously good, but it was also tortuously emotional. I balled, I mean seriously cried for four hours while listening to this book. This was a box of tissues kind of book for me. Great characters, I loved the friendships, and Wyn and Harriet? OMG.

JUST STARTED

I really like Kelly Bowen’s historical fiction novels and the synopsis for this one really drew me in. The story is told using flashback sequences between WWII and French/Dutch resistance fighters and the current story of two sisters who purchase a chateau and are fixing it up. They discover documents that reference the resistance fighters which tie the two time frames together. I’m really enjoying it so far!

Have a great Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (4/24/23)

Do you have a favorite genre or sub-genre in your favorite genre? I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for a great fantasy novel, but when it’s a romantic fantasy, I am in my dream sub-genre. Another sub-genre I love is a great sports romance. I’ll admit that a lot of times I’m really disappointed because I’m a girl who likes a little sports references in my sports romances and I don’t always get that, but I thought the book I just finished did a good job at delivering the goods. Let’s get to it and remember, feel free to chime in on what you’re reading as well!

JUST FINISHED

Surprisingly, there wasn’t a ton of angst in this Devney Perry novel. I’ve read a few and I had it in my had that there would be a lot of inner turmoil. There was a bit, but this was a solid second chance sports romance! I enjoyed the main characters and the setting. I don’t see a lot of books set in Montana on a college coaching staff. I was entertained!

JUST STARTED

An older book of Lucy Score’s that is having a re-release. Finally Mine is the sequel to Pretend You’re Mine which I enjoyed. I wish the author hadn’t spent so much time recapping a story I’ve already read. That plot device is one that drives me crazy- I don’t need to see the same plot through the eyes of another character, thank you very much. However, unless a book is horrible, which this isn’t, I will see it through to the end. I’m skimming all the bits I’ve read though.

I hope you’re Monday is off to a great start! Happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (4/10/23)

It was a busy week leading up to a holiday weekend, so there wasn’t a lot of time for reading, but I did manage to squeeze in a few minutes. I mean, come on, there’s always time to read, right?

JUST FINISHED

Four ex-stars of a teen tv show are roped back into a reunion show after 13 years apart. An unexpected meltdown led to a cancellation of their popular show, leaving a lot of questions unanswered. Although not my typical choice, I thought it was an interesting story and a quick read. Made me glad that I wasn’t a child star, that’s for sure!

JUST STARTED

A re-release of a book that came out in 2018, Pretend You’re Mine is a small town romance with quite a bit of heat between our two main characters! I’m half way through the story and see glimpses of what has made Lucy Score such a popular writer. Her characters are funny, relatable, and have real life problems, making them very easy to relate to. A fun weekend of reading!

Happy belated Easter everyone! Have a great Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (4/3/23)

Do you know that feeling you get when you have just finished a great book? Maybe you can’t stop thinking about the intricacies of the plot, the quirkiness of the characters, or that sweet hea. I just had that perfect book moment, finishing the novel right before bedtime and then dreaming of these characters all night long. (sigh) Wonderful! I hope you’re having happy book moments as well!

JUST FINISHED

A debut novel by Sarah Adler that will charm you. The perfect grumpy guy-quirky girl, road trip romance. Millicent is an ex-child star who’s ninety-ish best friend dies and gives her the task of reconnecting a small portion of her ashes with the woman she fell in love with during WWII. This was a story that stayed with me for a long while, in a good way!

JUST STARTED

I have picked The Daydreams up quite a few times, but haven’t yet been in the mood. I’m hoping this will be my next book, but it’s possible I’ll get diverted by another title again. A cast of ex child tv stars have all gone their separate ways when they are approached to do a reunion show that might open them up to old wounds. Sounds pretty good, right?

Have a great Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (3/20/23)

I have gone down the rabbit hole of previous season’s “best of” book lists and have recently added to my already overburdened TBR. BUT, I’ve also knocked off a couple of these new, wonderful books from that list already. I’ve had an awesome week of reading and listening to some great audiobooks. Here’s what’s on my nightstand.

JUST FINISHED

I’ll admit to having looked at this book quite a few times, but I’d never picked it up because I’d read a couple of average “witchy” books last fall and didn’t want a repeat of mediocrity. However, I was sent a ‘best of 2022’ romance books list by an audiobook company and this book fell into that list. I took a look at it again, had an extra couple of credits and downloaded it to my Libro.fm app. I adored the English narrator, and loved the story. This book was so much more than a romance, it was really about an outcast finally finding a place where she belonged. Who can’t get behind a story like that? The narration was seriously good too.

JUST STARTED

This is a new one for me. I haven’t read the other books in the series, nor have I read any books by this author. However, it has a ghostly-mysterious feel and I was in the mood to switch up my genre’s and felt like reading a mystery. I literally just started it, so I’ll let you know how it goes!

The above two books are different choices for me but I feel really good about spending my time with these characters. How is your current book treating you?

Happy Monday and happy reading!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (3/13/23)

You know when you have finished a great book and it resonates with you for a day or so after you finish it? I’m having one of those moments about the below “just finished” novel. So, I’ll admit I’m having trouble coming up with my intro at the moment. I’ll get right to it.

JUST FINISHED

I just listened to the audiobook of this novel and it is still resonating deeply with me. Set in a rural Vermont boarding school, our protagonist re-lives the four years she went to this school and especially the year her roommate died. It reminded me a lot of listening to the podcast of Adnan Syed’s case of an innocent man going to jail for the murder of his high school girlfriend. I Have Some Questions for You, also revolves around a podcast and an innocent man going to jail, but as you can with fiction, delves deeply into the psyches of those teens 20 years ago, and their lives today. I’ll be writing a review, but this was a good on folks!

JUST STARTED

I really enjoyed Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After and am looking forward to digging into the heart of this novel. Even though I’m reading this in March, I know this will be a beach read recommendation, for sure.

What great novels have you gotten yourselves involved in?

Happy Monday and happy reading!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (2/27/23)

Hey guys, happy Monday! If you’re like me, you’ve been reading some great books lately. I’ll admit that the book I just finished was soooo good! I didn’t want to put it down, even for my day job. 🙂

JUST FINISHED

For me, Romantic Comedy checked off all of the right boxes, making this one of my favorite books so far this year. Our heroine is a sketch writer on a show called TNO, think SNL, and our hero was a guest host/musician. The intricacies in this plot, great dialog (so funny!), and throw in some pandemic references, and this book had it all. If you don’t read anything else, read this book!

JUST STARTED

Lucy Score writes really great romance novels and I’m looking forward to digging into the dialog and getting to know these characters. If it’s as good as the first I’ll be delighted!

I hope you have the best Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (2/20/23)

Have any of you tried out Kindle Vella yet? I’ll admit that I’m not sure how I feel about it yet and think I might actually spend more money buying these tokens to read episodes than I would purchasing an entire kindle book. However, I did get totally hooked on this one episodic teen novel, which I’ll tell you about below. So, I guess using the word “hooked” does mean that the format is working. But for me, it will never take the place of purchasing and reading a book all in one go.

JUST FINISHED

Covert Hearts is the novel that I found on Kindle Vella and spent my Saturday reading. It’s a young adult serial, that has some great characters. Each episode, which are chapters, ended in a cliffhanger that just kept me going. There are three books in the series, and the episodes are typically released one week at a time. Or however often the author wants to release them. There are two books released and I’ll admit, they were a lot of fun to read! If you happen to give it a try I’d be interested to know what you think about Kindle Vella.

JUST STARTED

I just started this audiobook by Penny Reid and am really enjoying the story and narration. This series are written kind of like cozy mysteries, but with characters that started off in romance novels. It’s a lot of fun and pretty easy to follow in an audiobook while I’m driving or (at work, shhhh!).

Have you book hooked by a story this past week? Share the title here!

Have a great Monday and happy reading!
