At the end of the first book, Mercury Striking, Vivienne Wellington was rescued by Raze Shadow and the Vanguard team from more torture by the President of the US. The President, now a Ripper, had thought Vinnie was psychic and was trying to get her to find or tell him where, “The Bunker” was, a top secret location where a supposed cure to the Scorpius virus had been found. In her drug ridden haze, she clings to the strength of Raze, and as she recovers from the drugs and torture, she finds that her feelings for him had strengthened, not faded.
We met Raze in the first book. He had mysteriously walked into Vanguard one day and joined their team. With his military background, his skills were needed, but Jax, leader of Vanguard, had been biding his time until he could uncover the reason for his being there. In this novel, all of that gets uncovered, and the reader is taken along for a thrilling, action adventure tale that rivals any Bourne story.
Rebecca Zanetti excels at writing alpha male romances, and this series delivers on that promise, but what sets her apart from some of her counterparts is that her heroines are not helpless females who need to be rescued. They are beautiful, yes, but they are also intelligent women who don’t stand on the sidelines. They have an active role in her stories, and in this series in particular, I think, will have the brains to come up with the antidote that is wiping out humanity. Most importantly, as this is also a romance series, her characters have great sexual tension, and those scenes are scorching hot!
I know all Rebecca Zanetti fans will love this book, but if you haven’t read the first book, Mercury Striking, please read that book first because this series has a continuing story. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Kensington Books, through NetGalley, for my honest review.
