It’s Monday, what are you reading? (2/1/21)

I have my reading mojo back! I’m not sure what triggered it but I have been able to enjoy not only books I’ve read before, but new books and I’m able to concentrate on the plots. yay! Seriously, though it’s been tough these last 8 months. I read about 60 books less in 2020 than in 2019 so it’s nice to be upping my book count again. I will admit, that I’m still reaching for old favorites, but I am reading many more new to me novels as well. Here is what I’ve been reading!

JUST FINISHED

I love the Fever series, but I had been holding back on reading High Voltage because it focused on Dani who hadn’t been one of my favorite characters. I LOVE Mackenna and Barrons and Dani and Ryodan were just ‘eh’ for me. However, having now read this novel and like them so much more. I understand them more. Are they my favorite characters now? No. I am glad I read their story and a new book in the series is coming out next month so I needed to get this one read!

JUST STARTED

You will definitely be seeing this book on my list for the books I’m looking forward to being released in March. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this novel and jumped it ahead (which I never do!) because an Urban Fantasy mystery sounded like just what I needed to round out my reading this month. Anna and Charles are fascinating and although I just started this one, it is off to a great start!

I have mixed in some romance novels with the Urban Fantasy books you see above. What am I missing? Let me know what books you’re reading that may or may not need to be added to my TBR?

Happy Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/25/21)

I haven’t felt well for a couple of days (bad back) so I’ve been listening to an old favorite while trying to sleep and distract myself from my aches and pains. Isn’t it interesting how you can divert your brains attention in another direction? I’m sure there are a ton of medical papers on that but I’ve found that an audiobook will help me fall asleep when my brain won’t shut down, and in this case distract me from the pain I’m feeling. Enough about that, let’s talk about the books that I’ve been reading.

Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite female fantasy characters. She’s tough, but doesn’t mind having a soft side. She’s loyal to a fault, but she’s also a lot of fun. If you’re looking for an action packed fantasy series to listen to I do recommend this one.

JUST STARTED

The third book in the Central Park Pact and one I look forward to getting into. I have enjoyed the first two novels and really have gotten to like this author’s style. This is the only series of her’s I’ve read and I’m looking forward to digging into some others.

Happy Monday everyone! What book are you reading to help jump start your week?

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/18/21)

A wonderful weekend where I actually did find time to curl up and read a couple of books. What did it take to get me there? Ilona Andrews released a book last week! For those of you who know me well, you know I’ll drop everything to read one of their books. It seemed to jump start my reading because then I picked up another. Maybe I’ve gotten my reading mojo back?

Set in the Kate Daniels world, this is Julie’s book. A lot has happened in the eight years since she left home and Julie is not the same person anymore. Turns out, no one else is the same either. The only negative thing I can say is that it ended in a cliff hanger and I just hate those.

JUST STARTED

I am back in Moose Springs, Alaska with my new favorite cast of characters. Didn’t the second book just come out? This is a pretty speedy release, but that’s ok because these are totally cute. I’ve just gotten started but it looks like another fun book with a sassy heroine. And guess what? I have tomorrow off. I think I might spend it reading.

What book are you reading this fine Monday?

Have a great week!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/11/21)

This week has been more about watching the news than it’s been about reading but I did manage to finish one book and start another. Again, I’m sticking to romance novels where I’m guaranteed a happy ending because I still feel the need for that kind of resolution in my own world. 🙂

This novels struck the right chord at the right time for me. I loved the characters, the feeling of family, and the love story. I’d recommend it completely should you be in the right mood for a romance!

JUST STARTED

I just started this novel but I have high hopes based on Emma Lord’s last novel Tweet Cute, which I thought was adorable. This is a YA contemporary novel and the characters seem interesting so far! I’ll let you know what I think.

What books are you reading this fine Monday? Please let me know in the comments below!

Have a great week and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/4/21)

I finally managed to get a good bit of reading in during my break from work over the last 10 days. I did also stream some shows with my husband. I know last week I talked about Bridgerton, but over New Years my husband and I streamed Ted Lasso on Apple TV. Such a funny and heart warming show. If you have that service you should give it a try. Now back to my reading materials.

JUST FINISHED

I read Motion, Space, and Time back to back over two days. The first two books being cliffhangers. I have been reading some books I’ve had stored on my kindle and Motion was one of those. Luckily I was able to find Space and Time at the library and didn’t have to wait to borrow the e-books. This was a really good series! Technically she has them listed as books 4,5,6 in the Hypothesis series, but these can be read separately from books 1-3 which have different characters. I love how her characters are flawed and real rather than being these perfect individuals that none of us can dream of being. These were good and I totally recommend them.

JUST STARTED

I’m about half way through this novel and it’s really good! It’s rare when you can’t count on Nora Roberts to deliver a good story. Her pace and pattern of the story is familiar but I’m enjoying it a lot and can’t wait to get back to it.

What book did you read over the holiday and what will you be reading as we head into our new week? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

Happy New Year and have a great Monday!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (12/28/20)

I’ve been on vacation since last Wednesday and I’ll admit that I had a few books lined up to read. I got sidetracked by a Kristen Ashley jag last week, but I’m back on track reading an Arc of a book that comes out on Tuesday. However, yesterday I was sidetracked again by binge watching Bridgerton on Netflix. Has anyone else watched this? My husband even liked it! Of course, he’s a bit of a romantic and there was quite a bit of nudity but it was seriously well done. I would love to hear your thoughts, but I’ll get back to my post about what I’m reading, not watching. LOL.

JUST FINISHED

If you love fast paced, action packed fantasy novels with kick booty heroines then this series is the one you need to read next. Threshold of Annihilation is the third book in the series and just as good as the first two. You will need to set aside time to read this on a day long binge because once your start the action does not stop. You will want to read it straight through from start to finish. I did.

JUST STARTED

The pace of this book has thrown me off a bit since it’s much slower than the last few novels I’ve read. I need to sit down and immerse myself because this is a series I enjoy and I know I’m not giving it the time needed to really get into the story. I’m just at the start so it’s too soon to tell if it’s as good as the previous novels.

Now that you know what books I’ve been reading please share! Are you reading a holiday story? Or a happily ever after? Please share in the comments.

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (12/7/20)

This weekend my husband and I put up our small tree, hung a wreathe and vôilá we were finished decorating for the holidays! It’s funny because I thought we’d go all out in order to keep our spirits up but we just didn’t have the energy. One change this year is that we put the tree up in our bedroom and I have to admit that reading a book in front of a lit tree is one of the highlights of the year. So, what book did I curl up reading? Let’s talk!

Minnie Cooper was born on New Years and her whole life was told that it’s an unlucky day and truthfully bad things do seem to happen on her birthday. Meeting her boyfriend at a New Years party she gets locked in the bathroom and isn’t let out until the next morning by the host who happens to be another New Years baby. The one that took her name and all of her luck on the day she was born. The story of Minnie and Quinn’s friendship was funny, sad, heart-breaking, and heart-melting. It’s my first five star read in awhile.

JUST STARTED

OK, I haven’t yet started this book but it sounds interesting! Set in WWII a young film producer follows the story of some female pilots when they start getting murdered one by one. This may be a nice change of pace to start off my week!

Now that you know what book I’m reading this fine Monday, please share in the comments. What book will you be starting your week reading?

Happy Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (11/30/2020)

I had the last week off and read three books! I think that’s my record for one week since this pandemic started. It felt good! I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend in the US. It’s back to work for me today! Here’s what I’ll be starting my week off reading.

This post originated over on Book Date, so thanks for the idea and letting me continue on the discussion about what books I am reading.

JUST FINISHED

I stayed up too late finishing this book last night. A story about a family who’s roots are in Italy. A generations old curse, and a woman who was determined to find her lost love. This was one of those introspective stories that give a lesson as well as entertain. I liked it. A lot.

JUST STARTED

I haven’t actually started this one yet, but this is next up! Here’s the synopsis:

Their lives began together, but their worlds couldn’t be more different. After thirty years of missed connections, they’re about to meet again…

Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year’s birthday is unlucky, and that it’s all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she’s never met. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year’s Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990–and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it’s no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before.

When Minnie unexpectedly runs into Quinn at a New Year’s party on their mutual thirtieth birthday, she sees only more evidence that fortune has continued to favor him. The gorgeous, charming business owner truly seems to have it all–while Minnie’s on the brink of losing her pie-making company and her home. But if Quinn and Minnie are from different worlds, why do they keep bumping into each other? And why is it that each fraught encounter leaves them both wanting more?

A moving, joyful love story, This Time Next Year explores the way fate leads us to the people we least expect–no matter what the odds.

Now that you know what I’m starting my week reading, please share your book in the comments!

Happy Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (11/16/20)

Happy Monday! We are approaching the Thanksgiving holiday here in the US. People are putting up their tree’s and Christmas lights very early this year and I’ll admit that it’s made me feel a little more cheerful. I love the holidays! This last weekend was beautiful and we took advantage of it with a long walk, some chores outside, and a little hot cocoa next to the fire pit. I also made time to read. As my husband said, he hasn’t seen me immersed in a book this much in months! It felt good! I’ll tell you a little bit about it below.

JUST FINISHED

Despite this author’s personal belief’s, I was really looking forward to reading this book because this series has become so good! I was not disappointed at all. The mystery was so well written that it kept me guessing until the end and the main character arc progressed forward just a tad solidifying their great friendship. This was a long one folks, and this type of book requires concentration. I didn’t want to miss a thing.

JUST STARTED

I admit, I haven’t started this one yet, and may change my mind yet. It’s an ARC that I need to read and I’ve been looking forward to it. Originally set to come out last spring the release date was pushed to November so I’ve had this one a little while. Has anyone read it? I’d love to hear what you think.

What book will help get your week kickstarted? Is it a romance? A mystery? Historical? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (11/8/20)

What a glorious weekend! The weather in Tennessee was in the mid 70’s, the election is over (although they’ll have to remove the man who has chained himself to the desk), and I have caught up on writing some posts. Yay! I’ve just started a novel I was relishing reading and all is good in the world. Despite it being Monday and I have a full work week ahead.

JUST FINISHED

OK, I didn’t say I got a lot of reading done, did I? LOL. I finished this one last week and the review has gone out. I enjoyed it! It was the best in the series to date and gives me hope that the author may be able to build some emotionally driven plot into the next book.

JUST STARTED

Despite this author’s views and personal belief’s (which I don’t agree with) I was looking forward to reading this book. I love these characters and the mysteries are so well done. This is a long book so hopefully I can give you some feedback soon!

What book are you starting your week reading? Let’s hear about it!
