It’s Monday, what are you reading? (9/20/21)

I love it when I have a couple or weeks between ARC’s and I can read any book I want with no restrictions. I’ll sometimes read the strangest things just because I was curious. I read Regine Abel’s 2nd novel in the science fiction Prime Mating Agency. It was a little out there with the alien race being snake humanoid’s and guys it was a romance. Kind of wild! LOL. I also read an older Jill Shalvis novel that has been on my TBR. What else did I read? Check it out, below!

JUST FINISHED

The second novel in the River Rain series. This book just came out at the beginning of the month and as I do almost all of her books, I pre-ordered it. I really enjoyed the heroine and this story. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get with a Kristen Ashley novel. Well, let me re-phrase. You know you’ll get sex scenes but you don’t know if you’ll get a good story to go with them. Chasing Serenity had a great story too! yay!

JUST STARTED

I just realized I didn’t read the pre-quel novel to this one. Stop the presses! I have started this book but I’m going to put it down and pick up Just Folking Around. How did I miss this one?

Penny Reid writes the most charming novels so really no-harm no foul.

What books are you reading? Anything you’d like to share?

Have a great Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (8/16/21)

This past week saw my first foray back into an office environment. Although my company has opted for a hybrid setting, two days in the office and one day at home. It was good to see everyone face to face, although really we only see people’s eyes nowadays since we’re all masked up in person, but that camaraderie is hard to replace over a Zoom call. LOL. I don’t know about you, but I must be one of the few who enjoy working at home more than I do in the office. I relish the quiet and being able to make a business call without having 20 people listen in on my phone conversation. What does this have to do with what I read this week? Well, I used my audiobook to cut out the conversation around me and finished up a fun science fiction novel. Let’s get to discussing books!

JUST FINISHED

I previously read this novel but listening to it was a lot of fun too. It’s very fast-paced and our main character is troubled but has a great heart. She grew a lot in this novel, but having read the series I know that her future also has a lot of person growth which I love. There is also a romance component to this series, which adds some sizzle, but honestly the action scenes were what I loved about these novels the most. Check it out if you haven’t read it, this series is a blast!

JUST STARTED

This novel is falls into the romantic suspense genre, which was a perfect sequé from the action-packed fantasy novel I had just finished. I’m about 40% into it and the story starts out fast which our heroine under fire. I have recently discovered Adriana Anders with the first novel in this series and really enjoy her quick and easy style of writing! This is book two so look up the first “Whiteout” if you want to jump into the series. It’s good!

You can see I’m all about the action this week! What genre of book has caught your attention this week? Is it good? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Happy Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (7/19/21)

Yesterday I seemed to have spent most of my time in the kitchen, baking a bit and then cooking for the family. I spent most of the time by myself and finished up an audiobook I’d been listening to, and blew through an Arc by Evie Dunsmore that was entertaining. I stayed up way to late reading it. Let’s just get down to it.

JUST FINISHED

I am in serious infatuation with this series. These books are technically historical romances but because they are set during the Women’s Suffrage Movement the author has enriched each story with the hardships each woman faces. In this case, Hattie was seen leaning into her Scotsman and showing interest in having a kiss. Something that tarnishes her reputation and can only be fixed by her marrying him. While her new husband now has wealth, he grew up in a coal mine town and his rise to good fortune is due to his need for revenge against the man who sired him. There is so much to this book, and I know I’ll be reading it again soon.

JUST STARTED

I am re-listening to a series that I’ve read before but not in awhile. I’ve been doing that a lot with Ilona Andrews books lately. Some of these series are tied together by characters and its fascinating to find those intertwining moments. This series has connections to their Innkeeper series, which is one of my favorites.

What books are you reading? Are they an old favorite like mine or something brand new? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

Happy Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (7/12/21)

HI everyone, happy Monday! This week is going to be a busy one but I always have time to read. I finished three books this weekend, LOL. I have a week between ARC’s and decided to just let my feelings pick a book, or a few books. Here’s what is on my radar for the week.

JUST FINISHED

Kind of a mixed bag, right? LOL I have continued my obsession with audiobooks and I’ve been listening to the Sebastian St. Cyr historical mystery series narrated by the amazing Davina Porter. Each of the books in this series moves the characters forward in their development. Soo good!

Deep is book #4 in the Stage Dive series. This was also an audiobook and one I’ve been putting off listening too. I think Kylie Scott is an awesome writer and I’ve enjoyed this series. Although I’ll admit that I have waited a long time between each novel. Luckily I catch up with the characters pretty quickly. These characters were side notes in other novels and truthfully, not very interesting. However, the author did a great job holding my interest.

Duke of my Heart was an impulse through the library. I really enjoyed the authors more recent novel The Paris Apartment which was not a regency style romance and I thought I’d see how her writing translates to a more traditional historical romance. I was really surprised! The plot was atypical and the characters interesting! It’s the first in a series and I may read the second. Still deciding.

JUST STARTED

I’m trying to do a better job of reading ahead on my ARC’s and Wait for It comes out next month. I just started it yesterday but so far so good!

Now that you know what I’m up to, I’d love to hear what you’re reading too! Please let me know in the comments.

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (6/21/21)

I’m going to fess up I have not actually read any books this week. I have listened to one and am listening to another. I’m not sure if anyone is still interested because both books are from Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series. LOL. Has anyone else found that when they have a stressful work week a previously read book is a great comfort? That’s what I’m going through right now. So, listening to the Kate Daniels series makes me feel good. For what it’s worth here is what’s currently on my shelf.

JUST FINISHED

Technically this book is it’s own series but it falls between book #9 and book #10 in Kate Daniels and it’s content was relevant to the series. This book is the beginning of Hugh’s story and is meant to be read before the final Kate Daniels novel. I think it’s the third time I’ve listened to this novel and it still takes me over half the book to forgive him for what he’s done in the other series. He is one seriously bad dude.

JUST STARTED

After finishing Hugh’s novel I quickly start Magic Triumphs which wraps up the series. It is so good.

What books are you finding comfort reading this week?

Happy Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (6/7/21)

I am still all wrapped up in listening to the audio books for the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. When you listen one after another you really catch some of the nuances you missed when reading the books initially. Despite the time sucker of listening to audio books I did finish reading one book. I need to get back on track with my reading this week and have a favorite author that will help me get started.

JUST FINISHED

Despite being lectured by the author through the characters about adults not being the target for ya novels (I am one myself!) I liked this story. I don’t think this was an original story but it was entertaining.

JUST STARTED

Ah Rachel Morgan, I wonder what she will be up to in this novel. I do love my journey into the Hollows.

What books are you reading this week? Or what book do you want to read this week? A good book can make the week go by faster. Have a great Monday!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (5/31/21)

If you are reading this and you are in the US, I hope you have a nice day off for Memorial’s Day. Thank you to all of our troops who have served for our country including my own father and grandfather.

I was on vacation last week and took a break from writing posts, but I didn’t take a break from reading books! I have continued to listen to Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series and I have to say that I read each of these books as they came out but you really see how they tie to each other when you read or listen to them in consecutive order back to back. I am not only listening to these books but am also reading because I have had a couple of ARC’s due that I needed to review. Two from last week! See below to catch up!

JUST FINISHED

This YA historical romance was a fun change from all of the darker urban fantasy novels I’ve been listening to. I really enjoyed this story and the sassy heroine. If you’re looking for a quick, PG-13 rated read, pick this one up. It’s fun, easy to read, and the characters are charming.

JUST STARTED

A witch whose magic is tied to the weather. This book seems to have it all. A fight of good against evil, losing in love, falling in love, and saving the world. What else do you want out of an epic fantasy novel?

Are you spending your time reading today? If so, what book has captured your interest? Do you look for a certain genre or does a cover call out to you? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Monday!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (5/17/21)

It’s been a super busy work week so I haven’t really spent any time physically reading but I have listened to an audiobook. When I’m tired sometimes it’s easier to listen to an old favorite series than it is to engage my mind with something new. This re-read reminded me of how great this series is and I am eager to read the next novel.

JUST FINISHED

Magic Strikes is book #3 in the Kate Daniels series. One of my favorite female protagonists in fantasy fiction. This novel was very high action and introduces the reader to Hugh D’Ambre who becomes her arch nemesis in future novels.

JUST STARTED

I have been lucky to receive an ARC of this novel. It’s funny because lately I have been doing some reading from Nora Roberts catalog of books, especially her romantic suspense. It seems I missed quite a few through the years. I’m glad I’ll be reading this one as it comes out instead of years later! It looks really good!

I am looking forward to digging in and relaxing with a good book tomorrow. What book are you reading? Are you having a good time reading it? I’d love to hear about it!

Happy Monday!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (5/3/21)

I have been on a listening jag lately, finding it hard, again, to pick up a book and lose myself in a plot. I think in part this is because my husband has been traveling and I find listening to an audiobook to be soothing. I’ll admit to putting in my ear buds and falling asleep to some old favorites. It’s a comfort when I’m tired of hearing myself talk to the dog. Does anyone else do this? 🙂 The book I just finished is an oldie but goodie. However, I do have an ARC deadline this week so I have actually started reading the book so I can get a review out on time.

This post originated over on Book Date, so thanks for the idea and letting me continue on the discussion about what books I am reading.

JUST FINISHED

For those of you who have only watched the TV series True Blood, you are truly missing out. I am one of those people who read the books back when they were originally released and couldn’t watch the tv program because it wasn’t anything like the books. This series is narrated by Johanna Parker who does an outstanding job imbuing Sookie with the humor that her narration warrants. That humor was totaling missing from the show which was all glorified sex and blood. I’m so glad I’ve rediscovered this series and I’m slowly using up my Audible credits one book at a time. It’s totally worth it.

JUST STARTED

I met this author many years ago at a book convention. I was just starting out as a book blogger and she gave me her first book to review. Now, years later, I still find myself lucky enough to receive an ARC of all of her releases. I just started this book last night and it comes out on Tuesday. As with her other novels I’m immediately drawn in by the interesting characters. I can’t wait to see where this story takes me!

I hope everyone has a great book on their nightstand that they are looking forward to reading in their downtime. I’d love to hear what book has caught your eye. Please share in the comments below.

Happy Monday and happy reading!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (4/26/21)

It was a nice lazy weekend due to rainy weather on Saturday which was conducive to reading, or in my case listening to some old favorites. I have been on an Ilona Andrews listening jag. It has been great!

JUST FINISHED

This is my fourth Ilona Andrews Audiobook in the past week I am zipping through the Hidden Legacy series. I haven’t read these all in a row before, they are great!

JUST STARTED

I will be starting this one soonest possible. I expect to love this one as I did the Unhoneymooners. That book was hysterical!

What book are you reading to get your week started?

Happy Monday everyone!
