This Chick is joining the Take Control of your TBR Challenge! (Week 1) #TakeControlTBR

I saw this blog post on the Caffeinated Book Reviewers blog and had to join up!!  In the month of March the challenge is to reduce your TBR pile. Read any book published before March 01 2017 and then log them into her website. I am joining at current count, almost 50 other random bloggers and friends of Kimberly’s. Fun!


There are a few rules I must follow:

  • I can’t include any novellas, all books must be over  100 pages.
  • Begins midnight March 01 2017 and ends March 31, 2017 ( I’m late getting started I know! Luckily I’m a fast reader!)
  • Post a review to Goodreads or on my blog and then link to rafflecopter to win prizes.  Yes, prizes!!  Watch out folks, I am pretty competitive! Lol. 😏
  • Use #TakeControlTBR
  • Post updates and results on my blog
  • Read, read, read!

Considering I have 183 books on my kindle, belong to the Uppercase monthly Book Club and am about 6 months behind on reading those books AND I have a stack of other books I’ve bought, I think I have a good stash to choose from. ☺️

Goals: I’m going to keep it simple. My goal is to read 12 books this month off of my TBR list. I do have a couple of ARC commitments I have to get to that won’t count against this tally since the books don’t come out this month, but I think I can get to twelve.

First up is This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab.

This Chick Read: Silence Fallen (Mercy Thompson #10) by Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson, one of my favorite paranormal/fantasy heroines of all time, gets herself kidnapped and almost killed. Waking up in Italy, a captive to a renaissance era vampire lord isn’t how Mercy had planned to visit Europe. Not being able to feel her bond with her mate Adam, and the Columbia Basin werewolf pack almost put her in a tailspin, but it doesn’t stop her from planning her escape and successfully fleeing her captivity. Of course not everything goes smoothly, and being related to Coyote, the king of chaos, you know Mercy isn’t going to be sitting quietly waiting for Adam to come pick her up. Somehow, Mercy jumps from the frying pan into the fire, and manages to break up a sinister vampire plot. Told from both Adam and Mercy’s perspective, you got a real feel for their bond and love for each other.

Silence Fallen’s plot was so intricately woven. Adam flies to Italy to “rescue” Mercy, but she’s not there anymore and he has to beat back his wolf in order to have a politically motivated meeting with the Vampire who almost killed his mate. You could practically hear the growl in Adams voice as he choked back his anger, fears and frustrations. In my opinion, we learned too much about the dynamics of a vampire seethe. Stefan and Marsilia’s past history in Europe was kind of interesting but I learned more than I probably needed though I’m sure that will come into play in future books. 

Mercy always faces every challenge with a clear voice, but this time I heard a little bit of tiredness come through. Truly, if I were her, I would be saying, really? Again? Can’t I have some peace? Usually she just rolls with the punches. This time it seemed to take a little bit out of her. It makes me wonder what’s next for this character, and is the author also getting tired? I hope she has a lot left in her because I am not tired and could read Mercy’s story until she and I are in our 80’s!  ❤❤❤❤

This Chick Read: Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Veronica Roth has taken a creative  left turn out of a dystopian society like Tris and Four inhabited in the Divergent series to a world where your place in society was determined by your currentgift. At least Tris and Four got to choose the world they’d live in, Cyra and Akos’ fate was out of their own control. I am not a woman who likes their path chosen for them so the beginning of this book was a little frustrating for me. Never fear, our hero and heroine soon chose their own paths, and once they did the speed of the story picked up and the reading of it became more enjoyable. This Chick Read: Carnival Tricks (A Double Helix case files #1) by Jade Kerrion

This Chick Read: Feversong (Fever #9) by Karen Marie Moning

Atten: slight spoilers ahead!

Feversong, the final installment in the Fever series, wraps up Mackayla and Barrons storyline. At the end of Feverborn, Mackayla has to use the Sinsar Dubh to save Jada/Dani’s life, and becomes possessed. Finally!  We knew we were heading to this conclusion and that Mac would have to be possessed in order to conquer this evil. She did it in spectacular cannibalistic fashion. Yuck! However, after becoming evil incarnate, the rest of the Scooby gang led by the incomparable Barrons, is determined to help her overcome the odds and get free. This Chick Read: Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae takes reading a novel to the next level. It is part book, part graphic novel, and all fun! The story of Kady Grant and Ezra Mason is told through a series of emails, military diaries, memos and narrated videos. It is set in 2575, and starts pretty normally with Kady breaking up with Her boyfriend Ezra. That should have been the most dramatic thing to happen that day, but it wasn’t. This Chick Read: Future Threat (Future Shock #2) by Elizabeth Briggs

Future Threat takes up six months after Future Shock ends. Elena and Adam are together, at least as much as Elena can be with her survivors guilt and PTSD from the results of their last trip into the future. They are trying to get on with their lives after Aether Corp. messed with their future. One day Aether comes calling and asks Elena, Adam and Chris back to run some tests. They end up being drugged and forced to go back into the future to rescue another team that had not come back from their most recent mission. This Chick Read : The Shadow Queen (Ravenspire #1) by CJ Redwine

If you like updated versions of fairytales, then you will love The Shadow Queen. I hadn’t ever read one, so I was unsure if I’d like it, but I am happy to say that other than some of the basic plot points this storyline was as different from Snow White as you could get. Ok, there was an evil witch, and some rotten apples and some rather scary creatures that aren’t for the faint of heart! There was also a heroine who looked pretty similar to Snow White, with raven locks, pale skin and a healthy glow in her cheeks, but this was a Snow White with an edge! She knew how to fight! This Chick Read: Written in Red (The Others #1) by Anne Bishop

From the first scene, as Meg Corbyn is running in the snow towards the lights of the Lakeside Courtyard, I was gripped with tension, my eyes moving rapidly over the words that would take me to the next step in this plot.
