This Chick Read: Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega #1) by Patricia Briggs #Giveaway

The Giveaway for Cry Wolf has ended!

Burn Bright, Patricia Briggs’ fifth novel in the Alpha & Omega series, is being released on March, 6, 2018. In honor of that release Berkley Publishing and I am going to be giving away a copy of Cry Wolf the first novel in the series.

“Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country is about to recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.”

I will be reading and reviewing Burn Bright soon, but it had been awhile since I’ve read the other novels in the series. I decided to listen to the audio book as a re-read. Narrated by Holter Graham I again enmeshed myself in this fabulous Urban Fantasy series about Anna, a female werewolf, who finds herself mated to Charles, son of the Marrok or premier Alpha of all werewolves in the United States. As stated in the synopsis above, Anna, only a werewolf for three years was told she was a submissive, a werewolf at the bottom of the pecking order in a pack. Dominated and brutalized by a pack that should’ve protected her. She finds her self confidence and place in werewolf society with her mate Charles an enforcer for the Marrok, his father. He often gets sent on missions by his father and in Cry Wolf, he and Anna investigate a rogue werewolf.

There are so many things I loved about listening to this novel. Holter Graham does a wonderful job narrating. He imbues Anna’s voice with a strength and cleverness that she is only now discovering for herself. Charles who is described as being the strong silent and deadly type is voiced with a kind of nasal intelligence. Other werewolves have seen Charles as being kind of dumb, when in fact he is very smart as well as deadly.  Holter Graham’s voice for Charles gave him more cleverness than my own voice in my head. It made me see him differently than I had when I first read the novel. His gentleness with his new mate fit his characterization to a tee. Anna’s courage and sass strengthened as the novel moved forward and Holter Graham did a great job of starting off shy and moving towards an independence and self confidence that you wouldn’t think would come across in a narration. It did and it was so well done! So, not only was the writing fantastic, but that narration was brilliant as well. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This series, I believe starts and runs congruently with book 4 of the Mercy Thompson series, but you do not have to have read that series. This one stands completely on its own. The mystery is well thought out and the fantasy paranormal elements believable. Please enter the giveaway below to win a copy of Cry Wolf. I hope you will enjoy this novel as much as I have and want to re-read it or listen to it in the future as well!

A Sky Full of Stars by Samantha Chase

He’s always looked to the stars

Now she’s the brightest light in his universe.

Brilliant astrophysicist Dr. Owen Shaughnessy feels more connected to the cosmos than to people. He’s great with calculations, but when he leads a team of scientists to study a famous meteor shower, he doesn’t factor in his free-spirited artist assistant Brooke Matthews.
Polar opposites in personality, the friction between Owen and Brooke threatens to derail the project. But the beauty and mystery of the night sky draw them together—and she’s going to surprise him in ways the stars never could.
The Spinster’s Guide to Scandalous Behavior by Jennifer McQuiston

Free-spirited Lucy Westmore isn’t yet a spinster, although she fully intends to be. Fortunately, an eccentric aunt has left her both a diary detailing the secrets to spinsterhood and a cottage in Cornwall. Unfortunately, an insufferable marquess is angling for her prize! Turning Lord Thomas Branston down flat should be easy. So why does this man who won’t take no for an answer make Lucy’s body and soul sigh yes?

Thomas knows the real value of Heathmore Cottage, and he has no intention of letting some silly Society miss get her hands on it. He’ll simply have to charm Lucy into selling. But the clever young woman he encounters, first in London, then en route to Cornwall, stands stubbornly on her own two (quite lovely) feet. And now, Thomas can think only of sweeping her off them.

Sealed with a Kiss by Caitlyn O’Leary

Relationship Advice from Six Navy Seals?

A Girl In Need

He knows Drake, Mason, Darius, Finn, Clint and Jack will go above and beyond the call of duty to help the young woman he cares for. But will it be enough to ensure that Rebecca is safe and happy? And will he and Rebecca ever make it to that dance?

Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano

Miss Permilia Griswold may have been given the opportunity of a debut into New York high society, but no one warned her she wasn’t guaranteed to “take.” After spending the last six years banished to the wallflower section of the ballroom, she’s finally putting her status on the fringes of society to good use by penning anonymous society gossip columns under the pseudonym “Miss Quill.”
Mr. Asher Rutherford has managed to maintain his status as a reputable gentleman of society despite opening his own department store. While pretending it’s simply a lark to fill his time, he has quite legitimate reasons for needing to make his store the most successful in the country.
When Permilia overhears a threat against the estimable Mr. Rutherford, she’s determined to find and warn the man. Disgruntled at a first meeting that goes quite poorly and results in Asher not believing her, she decides to take matters into her own hands, never realizing she’ll end up at risk as well.

As Asher and Permilia are forced to work together and spend time away from the spotlight of society, perhaps there’s more going on behind the scenes than they ever could have anticipated.

The Darkest Lie by Pintip Dunn

Is it better to live with a lie, or risk everything for the truth?

In Pintip Dunn’s gripping and timely novel, a young woman whose life unravels in the wake of her mother’s alleged suicide sets out to clear her name.
“The mother I knew would never do those things. But maybe I never knew her after all.”

Six months ago, her mom killed herself after accusations of having sex with a student, and CeCe’s been the subject of whispers and taunts ever since. Now, at the start of her high school senior year, between dealing with her grieving, distracted father, and the social nightmare that has become her life, CeCe just wants to fly under the radar. Instead, she’s volunteering at the school’s crisis hotline—the same place her mother worked.
As she counsels troubled strangers, CeCe’s lingering suspicions about her mom’s death resurface. With the help of Sam, a new student and newspaper intern, she starts to piece together fragmented clues that point to a twisted secret at the heart of her community. Soon, finding the truth isn’t just a matter of restoring her mother’s reputation, it’s about saving lives—including CeCe’s own…

The Reading Chick’s Sunday #Giveaway !!

I am celebrating the end of Summer and my birthday by giving away books and swag from last May’s RT Convention over the next three Sundays. Each giveaway has a mix of genre’s as well as a handful of fun swag from some authors who I hope you’ll explore and love!

This Sunday’s giveaway includes:

Hooked on Love by Jennie Marts (my book has a different cover than below)

Avery Oliver can see the byline now. Chicago City Girl Tackles Colorado Mountains with Sexy, Reclusive Guide. What better way to jumpstart her journalism career than to head out into the woods with a hunky guide? It’s all very Bear Grylls, but she’ll take it, even if it means ditching her beloved designer suits and handbags.

All Sullivan Reed needs in life is a fly rod and the roar of a river. Playing guide to a hot little reporter can’t end well…until they strike a deal that’s mutually beneficial. She’ll pretend to be his girlfriend to deflect an overly flirtatious neighbor, and he’ll help her with the article. It’s a win-win.

Until it isn’t. Turns out, the only thing Avery’s worse at than fishing is being a fake girlfriend, because every time he’s with her, he forgets it’s all pretend…

Hot Seal by Lynn Raye Harris (my book has a different cover again!)

Navy SEAL Dane “Viking” Erikson has sworn off women—or at least he’s sworn off one woman: DEA Agent Ivy McGill. His ex-wife.

But when they’re forced to work together on a critical military mission, Dane can’t help but notice how the one woman he shouldn’t want is the only one he can’t stop thinking about.

Ivy knows what it’s like to fall for a SEAL’s hard muscles and killer smile—and she knows what it’s like when everything falls apart. So why is she naked against a wall and begging Dane for more?

Dancing in the Rain by Kelly Jamieson (Read my review HERE)

Happily ever afters aren’t just for fairy tales. In this heartfelt novel, a retired athlete must become a father to the daughter he never knew—just as he discovers the power of love with a woman who reignites his passions.

Drew Sellers is drowning in broken dreams and empty beer bottles. Hockey was his world, until a bum knee reduced him from superstar to has-been. Then he learns that, thanks to a one-night-stand back in college, he’s the father of a preteen girl with major issues. Her protective aunt sees right through Drew’s BS, but “Auntie P” is no stereotypical spinster. With her slender curves, toned legs, and luscious lips, she has Drew indulging in fantasies that aren’t exactly family-friendly.

At another point in her life, Peyton Watt would have been all over a cocky alpha male who pushes all her buttons like Drew. Right now, though, she needs to focus on taking care of her niece during her sister’s health crisis, all while holding down a job and keeping her own head above water. Besides, Drew’s clearly no father of the year. He’s unemployed. He drinks too much. And he’s living in the past. But after Peyton gets a glimpse of the genuine man behind his tough-guy façade, she’s hooked—and there’s no going back.

An Uncommon Protector by Shelley Shepard Gray

Overwhelmed by the responsibilities of running a ranch on her own, Laurel Tracey decides to hire a convict—a man who’s just scary enough to take care of squatters and just desperate enough to agree to a one year post.

The years following the war have been hard on Laurel Tracey. Both her brother and her father died in battle, and her mother passed away shortly after receiving word of their demise. Laurel has been trying to run her two hundred acre ranch as best she can.

When she discovers that squatters have settled in her north pasture and have no intention of leaving, Laurel decides to use the last of her money to free a prisoner from the local jail. If she agrees to offer him room and board for one year, he will have to work for her to pay off his debt.

Former soldier Thomas Baker knows he’s in trouble when he finds himself jailed because he couldn’t pay a few fines. Laurel’s offer might be his only ticket out. Though she’s everything he ever dreamed of in a woman—sweet and tender-hearted, yet strong—he’s determined to remain detached, work hard on her behalf, and count the days until he’s free again.

But when cattle start dying and Laurel’s life is threatened, Thomas realizes more than just his freedom is on the line. Laurel needs someone to believe in her and protect her property. And it isn’t long before Laurel realizes that Thomas Baker is far more than just a former soldier. He’s a trustworthy hero, and he needs more than just his freedom—he needs her love and care too.

The Talon of the Hawk by Jeffe Kennedy

Three daughters were born to High King Uorsin, in place of the son he wanted. The youngest, lovely and sweet. The middle, pretty and subtle, with an air of magic. And the eldest, the Heir. A girl grudgingly honed to leadership, not beauty, to bear the sword and honor of the king.
Ursula’s loyalty is as ingrained as her straight warrior’s spine. She protects the peace of the Twelve Kingdoms with sweat and blood, her sisters from threats far and near. And she protects her father to prove her worth. But she never imagined her loyalty would become an open question on palace grounds. That her father would receive her with a foreign witch at one side and a hireling captain at the other—that soldiers would look on her as a woman, not as a warrior. She also never expected to decide the destiny of her sisters, of her people, of the Twelve Kingdoms and the Thirteenth. Not with her father still on the throne and war in the air. But the choice is before her. And the Heir must lead…

One Selfie stick in a box from Tina deSalvo

This Chick’s Sunday Guest Blogger:  Author Laura Carter! #Giveaway #BlurbReveal #BalancingtheScales

Laura Carter has quickly become one of my go to authors when I want to read an edgy contemporary romance. She writes from a British POV and her plots are filled with excellent writing and erotic dramatic suspense!

When I met her in person last year I was charmed by her personality and after reading the first book in her Vengeful Love series I became a fan. If you follow Laura on Facebook or Instagram you’ll really get to know her as she gives you an inside view of her island writing nooks and Friday celebratory cocktails. I try not to be jealous of all those beach pictures, but it’s hard!

I’m excited to hand over my Sunday blog to Laura so she can also charm all of you, but more importantly so she can tell you all about writing, her books, and what’s up next!

I first met Deborah at RT Convention in Las Vegas in 2016. We were taking two minutes out from the craziness of the conference, and inevitably started talking books.
We have stayed in touch since, and I was thrilled when she asked if I would be interested in commandeering The Reading Chick blog for a day. I was thrilled, not only because I get to support Deborah’s blog and hopefully introduce myself to new readers, but also because there will be many writers among you and I think it is helpful to hear how fellow writers became published. Similar blogs certainly helped me.

So, here is my story…

When I was a young girl (*looks wistfully into the distance*), I would write song lyrics and make up plays. I would perform for my family, forcing my sister and cousins to take part. So, naturally, I grew up and became an attorney.

I know what you’re thinking—the two worlds don’t exactly go together like salt and pepper or Bonnie and Clyde. But, you see, my day job meant that I needed an escape from long hours and heavy documents, and that I was armed with knowledge of cities and a corporate worlds.

In fact, my first trilogy, VENGEFUL LOVE, published by Harlequin’s Carina Press, is a dark, city-based, erotic romance. Book Page described VENGEFUL LOVE as, “[A]fast-paced, scorching romance that moves from boardroom to bedroom, to the darker corners of desire and retribution.”

The VENGEFUL LOVE series follows Scarlett Heath, a high-flying London lawyer, as she falls hard for her enigmatic, quietly dangerous, and downright HOT client, Gregory Ryans. Their love story will take you on an exhilarating ride through passion, angst and corruption.

Getting my first publishing deal was both incredible and incredibly surreal. It is an experience I consider myself very lucky to have been through. I didn’t do things the conventional way (i.e. find an agent, work on the manuscript together, find a publisher). I bought a copy of “Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook” and I researched publishers. I scoured their websites and narrowed down my list of preferred publishers to a handful, so to speak. I sent off whatever they asked for—often a synopsis and the first three chapters, sometimes the complete manuscript—and I held my breath.

I was fortunate enough not to have to wait long for my first offer. I then informed the other publishers that I had received an offer and, suddenly, I had five! At that stage, I had advances versus royalty only deals on the table and, frankly, I had no clue what to do next. I had no idea how to differentiate between publishers and deals. That was when I decided I needed an expert to help.

I only approached one agent, on the basis she represented an author whose work I knew well, and who wrote in a similar genre to mine. That agent came on board and the rest, as they say, is history.

I started to attend book signings and events, and fell quickly into the insane and fabulous world of books, readers, bloggers and authors. The more I spoke to people in the book world, it became clear to me there were advantages and disadvantages of both traditional and indie publishing. I realised that I could write quicker than I could seal my next traditional publishing deal. That, combined with the encouragement of indie author friends, led me to self-publish my next title, SCARRED BY YOU.

is the ultimate second chance romance. Dayna Cross and Clark Layton were always hot together, that hasn’t changed. But a lot of things have. These two characters will take you on a journey of twists and tears, through anger, lust, pain, love and hope.

Following the success of self-publishing SCARRED BY YOU, it is my intention to remain a hybrid author, bringing more books to the market than I might otherwise be able to if I were solely traditionally published. All the while, enjoying the knowledge and expertise that seasoned publishers can bring to my work.

So, what’s next for Laura Carter?

Well, I’m pleased you asked (you did, right?).

Earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to secure a new three book deal with New York publisher, Kensington Publishing. The deal is for three standalone romantic comedies, which are part of the BRITS IN MANHATTAN series.

The first book in the series, BALANCING THE SCALES, releases 21 November.

The BRITS IN MANHATTAN series follows a group of friends in New York as they cross paths with sassy Brits, who have the ability to get the hearts of my American heroes racing!

So, brace yourselves for the British Invasion! Expect comedy, heat and swoon-worthy romances.

A Hotshot Manhattan Attorney.

Drew Harrington knows exactly who he is—a legal shark with a love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude that works just fine in his cutthroat world. He’s on the cusp of promotion to named partner, but only if he can prove to his colleagues that he has a more human side.

A Sweetheart of a British Patisserie Chef.
Becky Fletcher is running from her past, so the last thing she’s looking for is love. What she does want is a friendly face in a cold city. Her sunny outlook is the sweetness Drew never knew was missing from his life.

One fateful meeting at a bagel cart.
They sound like a match made in heaven—or is it a car crash? If they have any chance of finding happiness, Drew and Becky are going to have to rethink their life plans. Until then, is there really any harm in having some fun between the sheets?

All’s fair in love and lox!

Emily Price—fix-it girl extraordinaire and would-be artist—dreams of having a gallery show of her own. There is no time for distractions, especially not the ultimate distraction of falling in love.

Only Ben’s father, Lucio, gives Emily the understanding she needs to lay down her guard. Soon, Emily’s life and art begin to blossom, and Italy’s beauty and rhythm take hold of her spirit.

Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the inaugural Peyton Stakes, the richest race ever run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance–and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder–Maggie’s father, aging, yet wily as ever, makes a barter. #RT17 Ruminations and the Giant Book Fair! #Giveaway

Read to the bottom of the post for the GIVEAWAY!

This is my second year at the RT Convention and it was interesting to compare my two experiences. This year I did a lot more writing workshops and seminars, so it was a lot more informational, and a little less as a reader. However, I was able to fit in a lot of events and see my favorite authors, as well as meet some new ones!  I noticed a focus on different genres in the reader events and wonder if next year there will be a different focus? BDSM and Erotica authors were highlighted, which isn’t really my interest. On the opposite end of the spectrum it seemed like there were more inspirational authors. The contrast between those two genres made for an interesting crowd! There were plenty of mainstream events and I never found time to relax, except for when sitting in line for the next event.

For me, the highlights were meeting Ilona Andrews and Charlaine Harris. I am a huge fan of almost every series that they both write, and also know that they rarely make these kinds of events, so I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to meet them. I was excited to see Kristen Ashley, although disappointed because she ran out of books at the Giant Book Fair in the first half hour. I enjoyed seeing and speaking to Rebecca Zanetti and Laura Kaye, and in fact, Laura Kaye was one of the speakers in my writing workshop at the beginning of the week. She lectured on how to write an emotional arc, and I learned a lot!

The best thing about this trip is spending time with my sister. She and I share a love for reading, and look forward to this girls trip every year. Next year the event will be held in Reno at the Peppermill Resort and Casino. That part of the country is gorgeous, so if any of you have ever been tempted to go, I really think it will be worth it! Take the entire week and visit Lake Tahoe which is only an hour away!

I ended my week with the Giant Book Fair. There were several books I wanted that I didn’t pick up through the week. I know, shocking, right? (Final count 140!) This was my chance to purchase those books and meet the authors. I was lucky enough to get a chance to spend a bit of time with each of these, except Charlaine Harris, who was sweet but super busy and took some photo’s to share with you all. She also mentioned her series Midnight Texas will be on NBC in July! LOL.

Blog Tour! This Chick Read: Angelbound by Christina Bauer #Giveaway

I have been looking forward to being a part of this Blog Tour because  I had previously purchased this book! I laughed to myself about not having read it yet, because it obviously  intrigued me because I had in essence, signed up for it twice! Now, we are celebrating its audio release and I want to talk a bit about how much I enjoyed the book.

Christina Bauer has created a fresh new world full of angels, demons, quasi demons, and other fascinating creatures. Our heroine Myla Lewis, is no wallflower. She is a quasi demon who is a fierce arena fighter, sending souls to hell. As Myla’s story unfolds and she learns more about who she really is, her character becomes three demonsional keeping her strength, but also developing tenderness and heart.

This novel has a classic good versus evil theme, and Myla continues that fight against evil  that her mother started, before she was born. I liked how that story arc came full circle and that Myla embraced who she was with humor and empathy without the usual teenage freak out. I liked her choices, her friendships, and the fact that family meant something to her, even while distracted by falling in love and fighting evil. ❤❤❤❣

*Now an audio book!*

Eighteen-year-old Myla Lewis is a girl who loves two things: kicking ass and kicking ass. She’s not your everyday quasi-demon, half-demon, and half-human, girl. For the past five years, Myla has lived for the days she gets to fight in Purgatory’s arena. When souls want a trial by combat for their right to enter heaven or hell, they go up against her, and she has not lost a battle yet.

But as she starts her senior year at Purgatory High, the arena fights are not enough to keep her spirits up anymore. When the demons start to act weird, even for demons, and the King of the Demons, Armageddon, shows up at Myla’s school, she knows that things are changing and it is not looking good for the quasi-demons. Myla starts to question everything, and does not like the answers she finds. What happened 17 years ago that turned the quasi-demons into slave labor? Why was her mom always so sad? And why won’t anyone tell her who her father is?

Things heat up when Myla meets Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, a super sexy half-human and half-angel demon hunter. But what does a quasi-demon girl to do when she falls for a demon hunter? It’s a good thing that Myla is not afraid of breaking a few rules. With a love worth fighting for, Myla is going to shake up Purgatory.

About PASSION RESTOREDPassion Restored ECover v300dpi

The Gallagher Brothers series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues with the one brother who thinks he can handle it all and the one woman who could change that.

Owen Gallagher likes everything in its place and is organized to a fault. While his brothers have each dealt with their own personal tragedies and stresses, Owen figures he’s had it pretty easy. That is until his perfectly ordered world is rocked at its foundation and he’s forced to rely on others. Liz McKinley is stressed out, exhausted, and not in the mood for a bearded and growly man in her ER. When she patches him up to the best of his ability, she’s prepared to push him firmly from her thoughts. Of course, that would be easier if she and her best friend hadn’t bought the house next to his. Now their paths seem to cross daily, and she is finding it harder and harder to say no to the injured and angry man next door. But she’s been scarred one too many times in her life, and even though this Gallagher looks good enough to eat, she knows that sometimes, sating that craving is the worst thing she can do.
