This Chick Read: Michelle Sagara’s Cast in Honor

This is my first novel and review for 2016. I am very partial to fantasy novels and this series is one of my favorites.  However, it is a very intellectual fantasy series and sometimes borders on needing a Philosophy or Mathmatics major to completely grasp.  Cast in Honor was no different, and for the first 100 pages I wondered what direction Ms. Sagara was leading me and could we please get there quicker. This Chick Read: Kristen Callihan’s Game On series

Leading up to the Christmas holiday I read the third book in Kristen Callihan‘s Game On series called The Game Plan.  When I checked out this book on my Overdrive app, I’ll admit that I read the synopsis because the cover art drew me in.  Usually I’m not drawn to the naked chest covers.  I mean, I look, because who doesn’t! This Chick Read: Bewitched and Betrayed by Lisa Shearin

Over the Christmas holiday I needed to branch out and read a novel that didn’t have a man’s naked chest on the cover.  I was in the middle of reading Kristen Callihan‘s Game on series, and was finding it really hard to put down.  The men were fine, the women were strong and the sex was great.  However, as much as I love the romance genre, I couldn’t bring myself to flaunt those naked male chests, as fabulous as they were, Continue reading “This Chick Read: Bewitched and Betrayed by Lisa Shearin”

#readinto16 This Chick is Reading: Cast in Honor by Michelle Sagara

I was reading my morning blog by Cleopatra Loves Books and she referenced a challenge by another blogger BookerTalk to post a brief note about the book you were reading as 2016 started.  I will confess.  I fell asleep early, but had just started reading Michelle Sagara’s Cast in Honor, which is book #11 in the Chronicles of Elantra series.  I am also supposed to include a photo of myself reading the book, but since I’m reading it on my IPad, here is the artwork from the cover.

I challenge you all to also post a brief mention on your blog about what book you are reading as the New Year starts.  Tweet about it.  Let’s start a revolution! #readinto16. I’ll let you know my thoughts on this book in a few days.

Cheers, and Happy New Year!

This Chick Read- Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews

Alphas: Origins will be released in April 2016 as a single short story, but if you don’t want to wait, you can read it in the short story anthology Angels and Demons, with Nalini Singh as the headliner. Continue reading “This Chick Read- Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews”

This Chick Read: A Race to Splendor by Ciji Ware

I was recommended this book by Goodreads because I’ve read and liked books by Susanna Kearsley and Diana Gabaldon.  All of these authors write historical fiction, but that’s the only commonality I see. Kearsley’s novels are richly detailed and emotionally impactful and Gabaldon’s historical research gives her novels depth Continue reading “This Chick Read: A Race to Splendor by Ciji Ware”

This Chick Read- Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews

Sweep in Peace is the second book in the Innkeeper series by Ilona Andrews and the synopsis below is from the website Ilona-Andrews.com.

Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn is a living entity that defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina’s door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance. The Hot Chicks Who Read dish on Sara Gruen’s At the Waters Edge

I am in a book club called the Hot Chicks Who Read.  I laugh as I write that because, if you asked any one of us if we were hot chicks, we’d say, No! It’s just a fun title, and it is.  Privately, however, I think each of us would agree, yeah, we’re hot, but we’ll laugh as we say it.  The group of 30-60 year olds meet every six weeks or so, and dish on a book we’ve picked for that months meeting.  Our choice of books have had hits and misses, but the one thing all of the choices have had in common is that the group of us have probably enjoyed talking about the books more than we have had actually reading them. This Chick Read: Gail Carriger-Manners and Mutiny

How amazing would it be if you were a teenage girl sent to finishing school as punishment, but were in fact being sent to an Espionage school, in a dirigible!  This is the case for Sophronia, and the other young ladies sent to Madame Geraldine’s in the Finishing school series.  A prequel to the Parasol Protectorate series, this is the last of four books.
