This Chick Read: Talon (The Talon Saga book 1) by Julie Kagawa

What if we lived in a world where dragons were living among humans without us knowing it? This is the world that Ember lives in, but she isn’t human, she’s only pretending to be. It is summertime in California, and Ember and her twin brother have been allowed a vacation of sorts, before they undergo their entrance into Talon. The super secret ruling government for dragons. Ember hasn’t been around humans before, but she assimilates easily into teenage life at the beach. Ember quickly realizes that the life that she has been promised may not be the life that she wants to have.

I was surprised at the political nature of this novel. The intricacies behind Talon are only alluded to, but we do learn that it is not all about world peace. Another group, The Order of St. George wants to eliminate all dragon life. They kill dragons without mercy, until one man , Garrett, learns that not all dragons are the same. Just as some humans are good and some are evil, dragons also are good and evil. His world flips upside down, and he starts to doubt everything he was taught.

Although this book was a Young Adult Fantasy novel, and had the conventional teenage love triangle, I enjoyed the adult style of intrigue and drama. Warning, this book ends with a cliffhanger, but luckily, the next two books in the series are out!

❤️❤️❤️❤️
