It’s Monday, what are you reading? (2/5/23)

This post is all about sharing what I’ve been reading and starting a conversation about all of the great books that are out there and how little time we have to actually read them. I love it when I get a comment from one of you where my post has reminded you of a favorite authors most recent book, or even an old book that I’ve just gotten around to reading or re-reading. I have even gotten recommendations from you all about what books are on your radar, what’s worth your time, or what to skip. So, please keep the comments coming!

This novel was a departure from my normal reading and I really enjoyed it! Elizabeth Zott is a chemist in the 50’s and strives towards equality in the laboratory despite men treating women like all they are good for is popping out babies and keeping their home clean. I’ll admit that at times I found her trials frustrating, but I admired her fortitude, friendships, and her little girl Mad. This was an interesting piece of fiction!

JUST STARTED

I listened to Julia Whelan’s most recent novel ‘Thank You for Listening’ while on vacation and was blown away by her writing and narration. This novel is actually the first she’s written, but not the first she’s narrated. She has around 400 books in her narration backlist. So far, I’m again, impressed by her writing and really enjoying the story. I can’t wait for the journey!

Have you read any great books lately? I’d love to hear about them. Please feel free to share in the comments.

Happy Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/30/23)

I’ll admit that I haven’t picked up my next book yet and am going back and forth between a few. I have started re-listening to one of my all time favorite series and have pretty much been spending my time with my earbuds in my ears and being anti-social. It’s funny how each time I listen to this series it’s like it’s the first time. I find something new every time. I’ll tell you a little more about it below.

JUST FINISHED

One of my favorite books in this series. Why? Kate and Curran finally decide what to do with their relationship, plus theirs some kick @$$ action! As much as I love the paranormal romance aspects of this series it’s really the mystery and action scenes that keep me coming back for more. Oh, and for Kate as well. She is one bad mother!! LOVE her.

JUST STARTED

Just started #5. I know it won’t disappoint because I’ve picked it up and read it a million times before. Sometimes you just need the comfort of a much loved series. This is my comfort read.

Enjoy your Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/23/23)

What happened to the last week? Time flew by and despite all of the things on my calendar I still managed to have a little down time and complete a book. I look forward to that hour of reading every night. It helps my mind relax and release the stresses of the day. Here are the books on my virtual nightstand.

JUST FINISHED

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and I have to say that it really surprised me. I am not familiar with this author and didn’t really know what to expect but the characters were well developed and the plot was absolutely fun. Truly this one was a great weekend read.

JUST STARTED

This is book eight in the series so if you haven’t read the other novels, run out and borrow, buy, or well, borrow or buy these books! A Sinister Revenge picks up in the middle of Veronica and Stoker’s separation, but when his brother asks for their help they jump at the chance to investigate together again. I love these books and this one is especially well written.

Have a great Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (1/9/22)

My first Monday back after a couple of weeks of vacation. I had a nice mixture of down time and travel and read some books on my TBR that I had either purchased or borrowed. I really enjoyed the break! I’ve read 6 books since Jan 1, and I don’t think I really had one that I didn’t like! Here is the last book I finished.

JUST FINISHED

I’m quite a few books behind in this series but was in the mood for re-visiting some of my favorite characters. This mystery wasn’t so mysterious but was a great inter-departmental takedowns of some very bad people and I must say I enjoyed it a lot.

JUST STARTED

I haven’t really decided what I’ll be reading next but this book is certainly on my radar. A spin-off of the Casey Duncan series, I know this will be an eery, mysterious, romp in the woods. I’m looking forward to reading this one!

Happy Monday and happy reading.

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (12/19/22)

It’s only when I’m writing this weekly check-in that I realize that I have or have not been reading. This last week has been a read when you can fit it in kind of week. Yet, I did manage to read. Of course I did! Here is what’s open on my kindle.

JUST FINISHED

I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Reader Copy of this novel. Set on campus at college, our protagonist deals with her past while also figuring out what she wants to do and who she wants to be with. I really enjoyed this novel!

JUST STARTED

The second novel in the Wild West MC series, this novel so far seems to be a classic Kristen Ashley plot, which I will love. I’m not really into her MC series but did really like the first novel so I’m hoping the magic strikes again.

I hope you all have a great Monday! Happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (12/5/22)

I’ll admit that for work I am heading into the busiest time of the year, then when you add in the holidays, parties, and decorating I just didn’t seem to have that much time to read. I did finish a book, and whereas I didn’t hate it, it didn’t grab me either. It has great reviews and I kept wondering what I was missing. So when I was reading, I wasn’t in the right head pace for it. I hate that! Does that ever happen to you? On another note, my husband and I started watching Wednesday on Netflix and OMG, it is so good. That’s probably another reason it was hard to get into this book, it just paled in comparison.

JUST FINISHED

This one was really hard for me to finish. It wasn’t that it was bad, and maybe I was reading it when I was stretched a little thin and didn’t have the time to really enmesh myself into the story, but I just got frustrated with it. A great premise that showed promise and didn’t deliver for me. Bummer!

JUST STARTED

I received the advanced reader copy for this book and it looks like it will be right up my alley. A science fiction space opera with a hint of romance and action-adventure. I can’t wait to get started!

Are your holiday plans getting in the way of your reading? I know how you feel! I hope it gets better!

Happy Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (11/7/22)

So many great books are coming out this month! I have a lot on my TBR and am excited to dig in as some books are being released. BUT, I’m also reading a new to me author and have been going through her back list Kindle Unlimited. I’m excited to be approaching the holidays because I’ll have a little time off to hopefully read to my heart’s content. Here’s what’s on my nightstand!

JUST FINISHED

I received an advanced reader copy and was excited that I loved it so much. This author is exploring her muse and I love the direction she’s taken recently. Better Than Fiction is her best book yet- in my opinion.

JUST STARTED

This is the only series left from Vanessa Nelson that I haven’t read. All of her books are on Kindle Unlimited so if you’re a member, check her out. Her heroines are action-star worthy and humble. I’m really enjoying reading her back list.

What books are on your next to read?

Happy Monday and happy reading!

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (10/17/22)

It’s the best feeling when you read a few good books in a row, isn’t it? I’ve been reading a little bit for pleasure and a little bit of advanced copies and it’s been a great mix of genre’s and story’s. I’ve felt my want to read increase because I haven’t had a dud in a while. Here’s what’s on my tbr.

JUST FINISHED

I only recently discovered Jackie Lau when reading Donut Fall in Love, which I really liked. The Stand-Up Groomsman is the second book in the series and again, I really enjoyed this book. The characters felt real to me, with real personal problems. I identified with some of what they both felt, and also spent a good bit of time laughing at their antics. Mel is such a great character and I enjoyed he and Vivian’s story.

JUST STARTED

I have a love for historical romances and Sarah MacLean is one of my favorite author’s in this genre. Her heroine’s don’t need to be rescued and in fact are the ones usually rescuing someone. I just started this book but it’s off to a great start and I’m really liking Adelaide. We’ll see where she leads me!

If you feel like sharing the books you’re currently reading, please do! I’d love to add some new novels to my TBR.

Have a great Monday and happy reading!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (10/10/22)

It’s my favorite time of year when the weather is fantastic and there are too many great books to read. This last week, besides working, I also enjoyed a bit of the beautiful weather, AND read some great books. HA! Who says you can’t do it all?!!

JUST FINISHED

What a fun novel! It was poignant, funny, and oh so sweet. I will be writing a review soon, but let’s just say that this one did not disappoint.

JUST STARTED

I plan to start this book as soon as I stop writing tonight. It’s a romantic fantasy and looks like a lot of fun! I can’t wait to dig in.

Did anyone get outside this week or did you hunker down on the couch with a good book? I hope it was a good one!

Happy Monday and happy reading!

Deb

It’s Monday, what are you reading? (9/26/22)

I finished an audiobook this week that really got me thinking about our country’s revolution. My Dear Hamilton is the story of Eliza Hamilton and her husband Alexander, made famous in the musical Hamilton. Although really he was one of the founding fathers of our country and should be famous for that, but hey at least the musical has us talking about it all again. I have had this book For-ev-er. I have met Laura Kamoie, one of it’s authors, years ago and purchased the book when it came out in 2016. Then it sat on my audible shelf until I watched Hamilton for the third time and thought, you know what? I want to know more than what this version of Hamilton’s story is telling me. Wow, I learned a lot and it was so interesting! Don’t be surprised if you see me reading more from the Revolutionary War era. It’s fascinating, really! Let’s catch up on the books I’ve been reading lately!

JUST FINISHED

This book was so, so long! It’s funny but when you are reading books on your kindle and it takes forever for your % to move forward you know the book must be a behemoth. Did I like it? Review to come. I did and I didn’t.

JUST STARTED

I haven’t really started this book yet but it’s certainly high up on my TBR. I’ve got it checked out from the library and am eagerly anticipating how good it will be after I loved Elena Armas’s The Spanish Love Deception. I’ll let you know what I think!

Have you read any good books lately?

Happy reading and happy Monday!
