This Chick Read: Winterblaze (Darkest London Series) by Kristen Callihan

Winterblaze, the third novel in the Darkest London series, is about Poppy, the oldest sister, and her estranged husband Winston Lane.  In the last novel Winston had been mauled while investigating the werewolf who had been stalking Daisy, Poppy’s sister.  Because of that, this whole “other” world had been opened to him, including the role his wife plays in it, unbeknownst to him.  After learning that their 14 years of marriage has been built on lies, he left Poppy and went off to brood.  Three months later, Poppy forces Winston to face her.  While trying to figure out their feelings, they discover a murder, and fall into an investigation that becomes about more than life and death.  It is about saving Winston’s soul. This Chick Read: A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn

We are introduced to Veronica Speedwell, in this first novel in this series.  Veronica is an abnormality for her time, she is a scientist, earning a living collecting butterflies.  Traveling the world, by herself, a single woman and adventurer.  She is unmarried, and enjoys taking lovers, although she has a rule that they must not be Englishmen.  In 1887, these things make her very unusual, and as this story unfolds, the mystery of Veronica Speedwell and her unusual-ness (is that a word?) gets even more strange… In a good way! ME:  I see that we have the love of fantasy in common! Your bio states that you grew up reading Tolkien, as did many of us, and I definitely see his influence in The Invisible Library, in the characters Silver and Kai. Your love for Sherlock Holmes was also referenced in this book. This Chick Read: Shut Out: A Bayard Hockey novel by Kelly Jamieson

Kelly Jamieson’s first book in the Bayard Hockey series has a great story, relatable characters, and delivers a serious mhessage. Shut Out is not your typical sex with puck bunnies kind of storyline ( yes, they really call them puck bunnies).  There was a lot of action, both on and off the ice, but the author’s storyline about consensual sex, gave this novel a very serious subject. This Chick Read: Nobody But You by Jill Shalvis
