#readinto16 This Chick is Reading: Cast in Honor by Michelle Sagara

I was reading my morning blog by Cleopatra Loves Books and she referenced a challenge by another blogger BookerTalk to post a brief note about the book you were reading as 2016 started.  I will confess.  I fell asleep early, but had just started reading Michelle Sagara’s Cast in Honor, which is book #11 in the Chronicles of Elantra series.  I am also supposed to include a photo of myself reading the book, but since I’m reading it on my IPad, here is the artwork from the cover.

I challenge you all to also post a brief mention on your blog about what book you are reading as the New Year starts.  Tweet about it.  Let’s start a revolution! #readinto16. I’ll let you know my thoughts on this book in a few days.

Cheers, and Happy New Year!

This Chick Read- Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews

Alphas: Origins will be released in April 2016 as a single short story, but if you don’t want to wait, you can read it in the short story anthology Angels and Demons, with Nalini Singh as the headliner. Continue reading “This Chick Read- Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews” →

This Chick Read: A Race to Splendor by Ciji Ware

I was recommended this book by Goodreads because I’ve read and liked books by Susanna Kearsley and Diana Gabaldon.  All of these authors write historical fiction, but that’s the only commonality I see. Kearsley’s novels are richly detailed and emotionally impactful and Gabaldon’s historical research gives her novels depth Continue reading “This Chick Read: A Race to Splendor by Ciji Ware” →

This Chick Read- Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews

Sweep in Peace is the second book in the Innkeeper series by Ilona Andrews and the synopsis below is from the website Ilona-Andrews.com.

Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn is a living entity that defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina’s door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance. This Chick Read: Gail Carriger-Manners and Mutiny

How amazing would it be if you were a teenage girl sent to finishing school as punishment, but were in fact being sent to an Espionage school, in a dirigible!  This is the case for Sophronia, and the other young ladies sent to Madame Geraldine’s in the Finishing school series.  A prequel to the Parasol Protectorate series, this is the last of four books. This Chick Read: Shannon Stacey’s Undeniably Yours

I have mixed feelings about today.  It’s Thanksgiving, and my husband and I were supposed to be on the road to be with my family in the mountains in North Carolina.  However, we found out this weekend that there was a mixup with the property management company and they rented our house to someone else.  So, our plans have changed.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: Shannon Stacey’s Undeniably Yours” →

This Chick Read: The Guardians Trilogy or Cousins O’Dwyer?

Is it just me, or does Nora Roberts new novel Stars of Fortune: Book one of the Guardians Trilogy seem very similar to her Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy? In Stars of Fortune, the six protagonists are strangers who “find” each other in Greece, where we find out, each of them are looking for the same ancient relic.  This is, of course, a love story, Continue reading “This Chick Read: The Guardians Trilogy or Cousins O’Dwyer?” →

This Chick Read: I want to be Cormoran Strike’s girl Friday!

I initially picked up Robert Galbraith’s Cuckoo’s Calling because I was a fan of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series.  The Cormoran Strike series is written with the same kind of detail we came to love from the Harry Potter books. That detail made them so much more than just children’s novels.  Galbraith’s London, in which Cormoran Strike lives, is disillusioned, painful and muddy. Continue reading “This Chick Read: I want to be Cormoran Strike’s girl Friday!” →

This Chick Read: Who doesn’t want to be a Rock Chick?  Or any Kristen Ashley character…

Although, if you’re a Rock Chick you have to be kidnapped, shot at, held hostage, kidnapped again, and possibly raped.  BUT!  You get to be a part of the greatest group of female friends ever.  I read Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick series first out of all of her books, which is the correct thing to do because almost all of the rest of her series reference these characters Continue reading “This Chick Read: Who doesn’t want to be a Rock Chick?  Or any Kristen Ashley character…” →

This Chick Read: My first book on the blog

I typically only read a book if I think it’s not too serious, won’t give me nightmares, and has a little action.  I read a little bit of everything, though lean more towards romance than any other genre.  I blame my older sister for starting my romance addiction at the relatively young age of 16.  I went to visit her at college and would stay up until 2 am reading Silhouette romances.   Continue reading “This Chick Read: My first book on the blog” →
