This Chick Read: No More Secrets (Blue Moon #1) by Lucy Score

After a tour of duty, Carter Pierce is settled back into life on the farm, hoping for a quiet life to recover from his wounds. New York journalist, Summer Lentz, is living with him for a week while she writes an article for her magazine. She’s a fish out of water with her expensive clothes, but willing to try anything to add meat to her story. At first Carter thinks she’ll scare off easily but after a couple of days he never wants to see her go.

When Lucy Score gets into her small town romance groove, you feel the love. The characters are slightly kooky, and in the small town of hippie-filled Blue Moon that certainly applies, but these same people also fill the pages with a lot of heart, making the reader want to travel to a similar type of small town and soak in the love. No More Secrets and the Blue Moon series, is not a new novel from Lucy Score, and in fact, I read this novel five years ago when it came out. I only vaguely remembered the story, but I definitely fell back into the charm, no problem.

Carter and Summer, despite the synopsis of grumpy guy and city girl, actually hit it off right from the start. She may be a city girl but she’s got some insecurities that make her perfect for the love of this gentleman farm, and Carter doesn’t fight his attraction, at all. For all that he’s recovering from his time overseas, he is a pretty charming guy who knows what he wants when he see’s it. He quietly woo’s Summer right from the start. I loved how Carter, his family, and the town all broke down her defenses. The story was simple, sweet, and even thought it was a second time read, I enjoyed it again. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This Chick Read: Things We Left Behind (Knockemout #3) by Lucy Score

Sloane Walton and Lucian Rollins were once close friends but are now frenemies at best. They are on two opposite ends of the spectrum, she’s sunshine and rainbows and he’s surly and too good looking for his own good. Constantly thrown together by their best friends, they argue and bicker, making everyone think they hate each other, but deep down are remnants of that friendship they used to have. When Lucian’s investigation into a local criminal bleeds over onto his friends, Sloane is the first person he wants to lock in a room for her own safety, but Sloane’s just like her dad. A bleeding heart do-gooder who wants to help and get to the bottom of the mystery, despite jeopardizing her own safety. This is the story that fans of this series have been waiting for- Lucian and Sloane’s story.

I enjoyed the first two novels in the series but Lucian and Sloane’s story was the one I was really waiting to read. Surly bad guy Lucian was such a mystery, we were never really given any backstory and only the fine polished surface of good looks and possible villain. We knew he really wasn’t though. Sloane, in the previous books, was always a fun best friend and the person you went to for good advice. The author dangled their dislike in front of the reader’s faces making us want to take a big chomp out of them but we were never given the chance. Boy, that wait was worth it.

Once you dive into this novel and understand their backstory, everything makes sense. I fell in love with Sloane’s do-gooder attitude even more and my curiosity about Lucian only grew until by the end I was all in for these two seemingly mis-matched pair, who were actually a perfect fit. One of the things I love the most about enemies to lovers plots is seeing the alpha male go from serious to cracking a smile and there were many smiles to be had by everyone by the end of this book. Well done Ms. Score! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This Chick Read: Finally Mine (Benevolence #2) by Lucy Score

Gloria has taken control of her life after ten years of being in an abused relationship. Leaving her boyfriend and getting her first job in a florist shop. Aldo has always been in love with Gloria, but used his National Guard tours as a way to remove himself from seeing her get hurt if he were to confront the man who was hurting her. When Gloria’s finally free Aldo promises them both that they will explore their future together as soon as his last tour is done. Unfortunately, he gets hurt, losing a limb and spends time recovering his strength and overcoming insecurities until he’s ready to put them back on that path together.

This is a re-release of a book Lucy Score released in 2018 and since I’ve read more recent books of hers, I have to think she’s improved as a writer A LOT since she wrote this book. Gloria’s tale and happily ever after definitely needed to be told. I love stories about women empowering themselves, and this was a classic tale of an abused woman. Aldo’s story also needed to be told. We have men and women who go on tour who come back both mentally and physically injured. I would’ve loved to have seen a fresh story about these two survivors and how they found love with each other. We got a little bit of that but I will admit to being disappointed in how this story was told.

As this is the second book in the series, you’d expect a little bit of referencing of things that had happened with the previous novels characters. Finally Mine takes this referencing 200% further, recapping huge portions of the story- in fact, I feel like the author cut and paste large chunks of the last story and included those bits into this book. I don’t know if it’s because I read these books only a few weeks apart, but there was so much repeating of what I’d already learned in the first novel that I started to not care about Gloria and Aldo’s tale. I spent my time skimming and looking for new portions of their story and then trying to piece those chunks together. I feel like the author did the reader a huge disservice in the style of writing she chose for Finally Mine. I think there are ways we could’ve learned their history where it would’ve felt fresh, or maybe picked up at some point in their plot and wrote some new content. As it stood, it felt like about 60% of this novel was re-capped. That is just not enough new content for me to develop feelings for these characters. The re-capping actually ended up being more annoying than helpful. I so wish this author hadn’t done that to these wonderful characters.

No surprise that I had trouble with this book. I think the characters should’ve been given a chance to have their own story instead of just re-telling what we’d learned in the previous novel, or shown the same plot from a different perspective. Because of that lack of new content I wasn’t able to care for these characters as much as they deserved. Maybe some day this author will re-write this novel so that these characters are allowed a chance to shine. ❤️❤️❣️

This Chick Read: Pretend You’re Mine (Benevolence #1) by Lucy Score

Rushing from her home with only her keys in her hand after finding her boyfriend cheating on her, Harper runs away and ends up in a bar in the small town of Benevolence, where she sees a man about to hit a woman in the parking lot. Racing straight towards danger, Harper leaps to the rescue and ends up with a bruised eye to go along with her bruised ego. She comes to looking into the eyes of Luke Garrison who rides to her rescue, allowing her to sleep at his home for the night. When his sister comes up with a crazy idea for Harper to pretend to be Luke’s new girlfriend for the month he’s on leave before shipping off to the National Guard, a plan that’s supposed to get his mother off his back, Harper hesitantly agrees. Luke’s strong protective instincts and the friendly town of Benevolence feels like the home she’s been looking for, but she’s cautious to believe in her feelings after being burned more than once before.

Pretend You’re Mine is written by the bestselling author Lucy Score and was written in 2018. Having read her more recent novels, this one does seem a little less structured and has a LOT more heat between the sheets. Harper was a pretty easy character to like. She’s had a tough life, her parents having died when she was young so she grew up in the foster care system. She wants to belong somewhere, but things never seem to work out for her. She agrees to this crazy scheme of pretending to be Luke’s girlfriend because he makes her feel safe and she is super attracted to him. Luke is just about to go back to the National Guard for a six month tour of duty. He let’s his sister talk him into this but he doesn’t really want someone in his life. He has a secret in his past that holds him back from allowing him to feel something for Harper. Of course, he does despite his best interests but he has an internal battle on his hands before they get their hea.

Lucy Score always writes great secondary characters into her novels and this one was no different. I can easily see how Benevolence will have a series of books because there are some great characters that need their stories told! I’m looking forward to reading the other books in this series. ❤️❤️❤️❣️

This Chick Read: Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score

YouTube star Maggie Nichols flips houses and films them for her channel, earning a million followers with her charm and talent. When she finds her next house in Kinship, Idaho, she immediately starts interviewing the local contractors to help her get this Victorian mansion ready for re-sale. When she meets hot landscaper guy, Silas, and his sweet dog she feels a clinch in her.. heart, a feeling that Silas definitely returns. Has she finally found a place she can call home?

Maggie Moves On is sweet, funny, and tugs on your heartstrings and if she hadn’t let Silas finally “catch” her, I would’ve written myself into this story and captured him myself. This was one romance novel where the hero is actually someone I could see myself also falling for, and his dog was the icing on the cake.

I loved Maggie and Silas together, but I also loved all of the characters that made up this sweet story. If Kinship Idaho were a real town, this book would have people moving there in droves. I loved the sense of community, the quirky characters, and the love everyone feels for each other. When someone faces adversity the whole town shows up to help them get through that difficult time. Ahhh, I love romance novels and the small towns where their stories reside.

It’s hard to pick out a favorite moment in a book that is filled with great moments, but I’d have to say that when Maggie and Silas meet is probably a meet cute that I will never forget. I won’t spoil it for you all, but if if you’re even going to crack this book open, you need to at least read through their first meeting. I bet if you get that far, you’ll keep turning the pages. This story and these characters are pretty irresistible. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This Chick Read: The Worst Best Man by Lucy Score

Maid of Honor Franchesca Baranski, with her middle class background and work ethic, may be the only person at this destination wedding who is taking their job seriously. A fish among the shark-like elite Franchesca will make sure that nothing happens to keep her best friend from getting married. Even the groom getting kidnapped. Best Man and billionaire Aidan Kilbourn, is called upon by Franchesca to find and help her rescue the groom so he can make it down the aisle on time. Aidan is fascinated by this woman who has so much loyalty and shocked by things she’ll do to accomplish her task.

Lucy Score strikes again! I don’t normally read billionaire romances, that’s not my fantasy. However, I saw a couple of reviews about how funny this novel is and funny romances, despite their trope, is right up my alley. I loved Franchesca so much and her escapades while rescuing the groom were hysterical. I was laughing out loud and happy to have given this book a chance.

Despite not liking billionaire romances, I couldn’t help but adore Aidan. He was knocked flat by Franchesca and ultimately found her as fascinating as I did. When they return to reality (New York), it’s Aidan who pursues the bewildered Franchesca, until she decides to see if their two worlds can co-exist together. I couldn’t help but root for these two, one who desperately needed to be loved, and the other who strongly needed to be needed. They were a match made in heaven and their story is one I’ll be reading again sometime soon. I may actually purchase the audiobook for my second read so I can listen and laugh while walking the dog. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️

This Chick Read: Rock Bottom Girl by Lucy Score

Moving back to your home town is never easy but when you’ve lost your job, been dumped, and don’t have a penny to your name it’s a necessity. 38 year old Marley is back in her childhood bedroom living with her parents when her mom gets her a new job as the high school girls soccer coach and gym teacher. Marley couldn’t wait to leave town after high school and now she’s right back in the midst of teenage angst, cliques, and raging hormones- oh wait, those raging hormones are hers! High school crush Jake Weston is a teacher at school and when Marley ends up in the principal’s office she finds herself in a fake relationship signing an ethics contract! She has definitely hit Rock Bottom… or has she?

Rock Bottom Girl nailed all of my sweet spots; down on your luck heroine, girls soccer (I played in high school), hunky high school crush, and humor with a capital H! Marley was the type of heroine who doesn’t believe in herself but at the same time manages to rise to every occasion albeit sometimes accidentally. Her hijinks had me laughing out loud and reaching for the tissues. Not because I was crying from the emotion but because I was laughing so hard my eyes were streaming.

Jake Weston was the perfect hero. A little too good to be true, actually, but I’m going to overlook that perfection. He was the perfect foil to Marley’s imperfect life. Despite her flaws, he falls for her hook line and sinker, as do I. She was a tough heroine to dislike!

This was my first novel by Lucy Score. I stumbled upon it by accident and am thankful for whoever it was that recommended it. It’s a slow burn romance and there’s plenty of build up to the relationship and when our two main characters get together? Oh my! After finishing Rock Bottom Girl I immediately jumped on Amazon to see which novel I’d read next. I hope they’re all as good as this one!
