It’s Monday, what are you reading? (7/20/2020)

It was a really hot weekend in Nashville which means I stayed inside and read a book. (OK, I also got hooked on a reality show on the History channel called Top Shot, but that’s another story.) I trolled through the hundreds of books I had on my Kindle because I am ahead on my Arc’s and had time to read something for pleasure. That is always a great feeling!

This post originated over on Book Date, so thanks for the idea and letting me continue on the discussion about what books I am reading.

JUST FINISHED

I bought this book back in 2018, which is probably the last time I’d read a Suzanne Wright novel. I had forgotten that her books centered on the physical relationship, then gave you a side of story. If you like sexy paranormal then one of her books has probably crossed your path. There are six books in this series, so if you like demons and don’t mind a LOT of sex scenes this book may be the right one for you.

JUST STARTED

It’s back to the ARC schedule for me, and this is one I’ve been totally excited about reading. Spells for the Dead is the next installment of Faith Hunters Soulwood series. One I’m a HUGE fan of! Excuse me while I go and read for a bit.

I’d love to hear what book is tempting you away from your work this fine Monday. Share in the comments!

    Hi Deb,

I’m reading a collection of short stories by Katherine Mansfield. I don’t read short stories often – but I’m considering using a series of inter-related stories for my next novel. Mansfield, a New Zealander, was writing in the early 20th century and had a keen eye for domestic detail and drama. Her story, The Garden Party, is my favorite so far. Love hearing that you sometimes get to read exactly what you want!

    1. Hi Susan, I hope you’re well! I haven’t read a short story compilation lately but it sounds like it may be just the thing! It’s always a good feeling to be able to put a book down and get to sleep after finishing a short. You get that feeling of completion and no danger of staying up to 2am to finish the book! Enjoy!

      1. I just read the synopsis of Parakeet and once again, you’ve shamed me with your reading choices! I’ve never even heard of this book. It sounds very dry, is it? Of course, I like quickly read novels and if I have to work to hard at liking something it irks me. I’m always interested in how others perceive the books they are reading though.

      2. This is actually not a difficult read, though it is dry. Obviously it hints at the absurd, but not in a such a way as to intimidate the reader. I like to mix up lighter fair with medium fair with whatever looks interesting. But seriously….any book makes me think….

    1. Was We Were Restless Things good? It sounds like it’s a part mystery, part fantasy novel. I love a good mix of genre’s. I haven’t read any of the Diabolic books but that first one has definitely been on my radar. I’m guessing since Nemesis is book three you like that series? Happy Reading!

    1. I’m always looking for a new sci-fi author was A Memory Called Empire good? The reviews see mostly good? I may have to check that one out at the library. You Exist Too Much has gotten some great press. Enjoy!

      1. I’m a little over halfway through Memory right now and LOVING it. SO, I can’t speak to the whole thing as far as plot and how it ends just yet. But the world-building is spectacular and the political intrigue intricacies are so detailed. If that’s your cup of tea, style-wise, I definitely recommend it!

      2. I like to change genre’s and really like science fiction I just usually wait until someone recommends one. They can be really techy and dry, but if there’s great world building and the characters are fantastic I’ll give it a try. I did put myself in line for it at the library. Thanks for the recommendation!
