This Chick Read: Shadow’s End (Elder Races #9) by Thea Harrison

Shadow’s End is the latest novel in the Elder Races series. Thea Harrison has created a world where Elves, Vampires, Djinn and Wyr’s live in territories ruled by Kings, Queens or leaders of their species. This novel is about Graydon, gryphon and First Sentinel to the Wyr and Beluviel, consort to the Elven High Lord. A relationship between the two of them would be forbidden, but 200 years ago they had a dalliance that was discovered and used against them to keep them apart, and make them beholden to an evil Djinn, Malphas. They have remained apart for two centuries, but the time has come for them to escape the hold that Malphas has over them, and Graydon has been gathering evidence to make that happen because he can no longer ignore the allure of his love for Beluviel.

I am a fan of this series, and have read every book and novella Thea Harrison has written since the first book, Dragon Bound. Graydon has played a supporting role in many of the previous books, and so didn’t require a lot of introduction. I believe we were introduced to Beluviel in the previous book, where she had quite a large role in what was a great battle scene. I was engaged with her character immediately and eager to hear her story. It was about time they each had their own story, and I had wondered how it would play out.  The Wyr and Elves have been enemies for centuries, and it would be a rare occurrence that would make a union between the two acceptable. Graydon and Beluviel’s story had all the right elements, a forbidden passion, a fight between good and evil, and a love that overcomes all obstacles. My favorite in this series is still the love story between Dragos and Pia, in the first book, Dragon Bound, but this book did not disappoint.
