This Chick Read: Driven by Kelley Armstrong

This is a pre-release book provided to me by Subterranean Press through  Driven is a novella from the Otherworld Series and features Elena Michaels and Clay Danvers two of my favorite characters.  The copy I received did not have any of the graphic art except the cover, but the print release will include those drawings.

The following synopsis is from

Cains are known for being big, brutish and not-too-bright. The mutt clan embodies all the supernatural world’s worst stereotypes about werewolves. But not even the Cains deserve to be hunted down and skinned like animals.

When young Davis Cain comes to the Pack for help, Alpha Elena Michaels can’t refuse him. It isn’t about morality or justice. It’s about not letting anyone think they can do this to werewolves and get away with it.

But Elena is also dealing with the Pack’s homegrown monster—Malcolm Danvers, onetime enforcer, full-time psycho. Malcolm is now under Elena’s control, as part of the most difficult decision she’s had to make as leader. But if she has to let Malcolm in, she’s going to make full use of him…and the best person to catch monsters is one who knows exactly how they think.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read a story featuring Elena and Clay.  Elena is now Alpha of the New York pack and Clay her enforcer.  My memories of her were that she was always so strong.  I had not thought to see so much of her inner struggle when she had to make a difficult decision, yet, I guess she showed her strength by making those difficult decisions despite that struggle.

Davis Cain, was an interesting character.  Described as not very attractive, as I guess most Cains aren’t, yet at the top of the IQ range for a Cain.  I really liked this young werewolf.  He is a mutt, looked down on by true werewolves, yet was going to college and trying to make a better life for himself, despite his genetics.  Sounds kind of like most of humanity, right?

I enjoyed this brief foray into the Otherworld and would recommend it to those of you who have read Elena and Clays stories previously.
